Dumb question....

I apologize in advance for asking this, because it seems dumb, but the more I think about it I really do wonder...

I have the basic 6-speaker factory system in my FJ. I'm replacing that with new HU and just two front component speakers (with an amp for the components and an amp for the subwoofer.) But I'm soldering the new Hu's wires to a Crutchfield Toyota-specific harness to connect to the FJ's factory harness.

Sooo... seeing as I'm wiring the HU into the factory harness, which is connected to the factory speakers, how will the HU know to output to my amps/speakers rather than the factory speakers (which of course will be removed, but the harness wires will still lead to where they were...)

Does the RCA/amp output override the harness output or something? And, as I won't be using rear speakers at all, what's the cleanest way to cut them out of the loop? Can I just cap off the rear connections at the harness instead of making the solder connection?

Thanks for bearing with me... this is really perplexing me this morning

Re: Dumb question....

The only thing the HU needs off the factory harness is power, ground, and a switched 12v. The RCAs of the HU run to the amp, and the amp connects up to the speakers. If you didnt have an amp, then you would leave the factory harness untouched and let the HU power up the speakers.

Re: Dumb question....

the RCA outputs wont override anything. you need to leave the speaker wires from the deck disconnected.
