I have an Alpine MRP-550. The instruction manual recommends either a 8g or 6g wiring for the power.
My question is can I use a 4 awg wiring to power the amp and it would cause any harm to the amp?

larger wire wont cause any damage to an amplifier. if anything, it is better for it. the more current it has in, the better the sound will be coming out of it. when the lower notes hit, the amplifier draws more current, if the current supply on the front end (input end) of the amplifier surpasses the demand from the amplifier, it wont clip or make any distortion if setup right.

just remember if you are looking for the added benefit of 4awg, to make sure you have a 4awg ground. your circuit is only as good as its weakest link

techincally, depending on length, you can get away with a smaller ground. but to keep things simple and cleaner, always use the same gauge wire for your ground as your 12v lead. good point.
Sounds good. I was planning to use a 4awg ground anyways.
