FJammer vs. Basic FJ stereo

Well, a couple of months ago my FJammer committed suicide, and stop reading and ejecting discs. Irreparable. So, FJDave donated his original stock head unit to me (an FJammer with out the 6 disc). Finally.. i can play CD's!

Upon installation, everything that was unplugged from the back of the FJammer, was plugged back into the new stereo in the exact same locations.. it even weighs the same to me.. (i should have opened it up to see if there was a 6 disc changer hidden in there). My sub still works, my aux port still works, basically, its the same stereo.

Three differences: Different face plate, you can't customize the screen color or power up text, and of course, no 6 disc changer. But, my cd's are on the sun visor so that doesn't even bother me.

Plus i think the black looks a lot better than the silver color.

So if you have the black stereo, and want an fjammer, don't wast your money. I see them going for upwards of $200 sometimes, and that is ridiculous!

P.S. Yes the steering wheel controls still work.

Re: FJammer vs. Basic FJ stereo

I have / had a black one that broke just like your FJammer, wont eject CD's. My buddy had a scion head unit laying around and gave it to me and I used that for about a year. The sound quality from the Scion unit is way better then the stock FJ sterio. But now that ones broken to :mercy: and been listing to Jack FM for the last 3 months. I need to stop playing CD's when I off road. I'm going to try and get another Scion head unit.

Re: FJammer vs. Basic FJ stereo

Does the basic head unit have the inputs for the rear speakers(blank covers) even though they did not come with rear speakers in the basic package?

I too like the look of the basic radio and I would think it would keep the prying eyes from enticing to break in.

Thanks,

Re: FJammer vs. Basic FJ stereo

That looks good in there Dom! Glad you could use it....it was just taking up space in the garage, and I knew you needed one. But as was pointed out, don't use CDs while off-roading. Just plug your iPod in and listen to that instead. I don't even have a CD in my stereo at all, and I've taken them all out of the FJ entirely. Just the iPod now!

I was always under the impression that the main upgrade you were getting was in the speakers.....if this is indeed the case then I think a more accurate comparison would be to compare a stock stereo and speaker setup to the fjammers setup
