Hey now! In my old '94 SR5 I always locked the hubs, was i not supposed to? Boy I took that thing through every mud hole East texas had to offer, right until i stuck it in a pond with water up to the mirrors....my dad ripped me a new exit when i got done pulling it out with my tractor....
but seriously, was it foolish of me to get out and lock the hubs everytime i put it in 4 wheel drive?
Not sure of a '94 SR5 (but I see no reason it would be any different), but I do know all my old American trucks (and a '86 CJ7 my step-dad use to own) only needed to lock the hubs when you put it in 4L...normal 4WD does not need any locking.

I was just using that as an example of something that one used to have to do but is no longer necessary.

Like MissFJ, I prefer to turn it off just so that its not on when I start her back up.
And the manual hubs of older vehicles had nothing to do with the transfer case. They either locked the axle to the wheel, or didnt.
High 4WD, or Low 4WD should have required locked hubs if you wanted the fronts driven.
And regarding the old Yota, like I said before, if you WANTED the fronts driven, you locked the hubs every time. (suppose to)
You're right; I'm getting it confused with my 4wd low option. My K5 has the ability to go to 2WD-L by unlocking the manual hubs & then shifting the transfer case to 4WD-L. I've used this a lot to pull boats out of the water...great for creeping along slowly up the ramp.

I turn off the AC and let the vent run to dry out the system, supposedly. I think I read that somewhere. It is supposed to help prevent that mildew smell cars sometimes get if they are parked/ restarted with the AC on. Anyone confirm/ deny this?

the reason for this (I used to do it with my old Alfa's).....is to prevent extra strain on the starter motor. My VW Passat was smarter.....it had about a 4 second delay before the compressor kicked on, so the starter didn't have to pull on the engaged A/C compressor. The GTI that I had after that didn't do it for some reason. So....it's all about your starter motor. I think the FJ is engaged right from the start, and has no delay

Our starter is pretty hefty. Think clutch defeat switch.
