Very good info. and thanks so much to everyone for contributing! I went to costco and bougt 2 dog beds...about $20 each and they are 2-3" foam. They fit perfectly in the back and give the dogs some insulation. I think that I am going to look into wiring in a small fan in the corner behind the passenger seat to help circulate the air to the back.
My avatar is George...one of my 13 dogs. Yes, I have 13 (see the 12 dogs of Christmas Picture below). I do dog rescue...

YES...My left foot gets sad if it doesn't have a clutch pedal near by...
Will the all weather cargo mat be enough insulation? or would you guys add mats on top of that? My concern is if there is a bed to lay on, the dogs will slip and slide on the beds jumping in and out of the fj.

I had the all weather mat down & dog bed...it still was too hot for my liking (and poor Bosworth). So, I reinforced the dog bed w/ some heavier blankets and that finally seemed to cut the heat out.

i plan on laying the foiled bubble wrap insulation. its only 1/4" thick and will cut the heat considerably. we (wife, 2 pitts, rottie and myself) are driving cross country on thursday morning and hope not to have any problems. they usually drive fine on long trips but they are not use to not having a window to pop out of. any suggestion on keeping the dogs happy for 40 hours?
we usually stop every 3 or 4 hours to stretch and run about.
I got the ear of someone who might help with this problem. I ran into a woman who represents Toyota USA in lemon law suits. She was quite interested in this thread and asked I email her the url of the forum and the thread.
Until then I'll just continue to wrap my dog in foil and fill his hip-waders up with crushed ice when he travels with us.
