Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

OK, finally got some time this weekend to finish the CB install.

So how do I get the coax from the jack area to the driver's sill area then eventually to the center console. (How to get from the back to the rear seat?)

thanks

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

I have a 4' Fire Stick on a Bandi Mount. I have clear reception out to 3 miles that I know of now. I am going to the FL Keys this week and will be out of the mountains and I will see what I get out on the highway. I think 3 miles in the mountains is pretty good.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

Finished install! Didnt take all that long considering i was watching the Big Labowski which is distracting. .........I ran my coax all the way up the drivers side to underneath the dash. Im using the Cobra 75. I mounted the separate box under and behind the main center console behind radio on hump. Mounted the handheld connector in the easy off panel by the right foot as high as i could mount it. It does not at all interfere with the right foot. I ran the cable around the pedal area under the flooring, down the drivers side under all the trim (very easy). Now, one very neat trick i found if it wasnt posted yet. If you open your back drivers side jack door.......then go in the cab and look to the back by looking underneath the rear seat hinge area so you can see light all the way back through underneath all that plastic compartment area. I snaked a coathanger (very straight with no little bends in it except for a handle on my pulling end, and no hook on the snake end. I just snaked the hanger straight back from inside the cab underneath the whole compartment and it came out right in front of jack. If you notice in the jack compartment the front most part of compartment base is square channeled for rigidness and mounting. The hanger is actually going through that and coming out just before jack. Its like a wire buss just for us. LOL
Anyway, taping your coax with no connector on it yet naturally, just tape it enough to pull the coax. You cant tape it real thick because it wont fit. I snaked the hanger, taped the coax and pulled it through in less than 2 min. Nice find. The pic i took by the rear seat hinge didnt come out but here is the compartment pic:

That is the jack base on the upper right looking towards rear of FJ of course.
This pic is where i learned to cut off hook i made during maplight install. The hook fit to snake hanger back but wont fit when snaking wire with it. Anyways, hope this helps if it wasnt mentioned somewhere yet.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

ttott17,

Excellent find, and was real simple. I just shined a flashlight and threaded a coat hanger as you suggested. Nothing needed to be dismantaled in the trunk area!!!

I love this forum!!! just can't stop this modding addiction!

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

ordered my Bandi mount last night. debating on which antenna to get. I've had my Cobra with a Wilson 4000 magnetic mount in the roof center since the FJ was new. Am i gonna see a big drop in reception if I put the 2' or 3' firestick on the rear? The only neg. with the Wilson is that it hits just about every branch when in the woods playing. Traveling the highways I prefer the distance for long distance radar notification. This along with my Passport 8500radar detector usually ensures a quite, ticket free ride. If this Firestik cuts reception down drasticly I could just throw on the Wilson for the long hauls.

Re: Cobra 75 WXST and Bandi Mount Install

I've broken a few Firesticks on trails so I prefer the K40 whips that are more flexable

I have the two-footer on mine and the reception is excellent! And I don't have to remove it or worry about it hitting stuff. Actually I was quite surprised how awesome the reception was with the two footer.
