Dude:

Are all the trailer lights working?

Its the converter box it goes under your dash. What manual did you get with this kit?

I could be wrong, but I think you use it to cut things. Try grasping it by the darker end and then press the pointy bright end in to something such as cardboard to see its effect. I usually put it in my toolbox.

I think anyone who didn't get the joke without the direct movie reference, deserves to be left in ignorance.

I know that there are a few posts concerning installation of the tow wiring. Check them out. I understand that you really do not want to screw up on the wiring. I was told a new fuse is involved also. So glad now that I ordered the factory tow package after talking to a few folks.

Re: Does anyone know what this is(does)?

That's the converter duhickey that plugs into that thinga-majig. The install guide is like gold. The converter gets mounted under the dash (more like behind the left kick panel). A towing tail relay and fuses for the hitch should be included in the kit.
Good luck!

Well, it should be spelled right. It's a Flux Capacitor...

And, when I installed my hitch and wiring, the manual definitely talked about it...
