Speakers for a Jazz Fan

I'm reposting this question - I didn't get any responses from the previous, maybe because it was at the end of another long "speaker recommendations" thread. If this specific question has been discussed before, I apologize, but my search didn't find an adequate answer.

I listen to mostly contemporary jazz - nice, mellow stuff, and it makes me happy. But, I like clarity and good, clean separation, and don't know anything about current auto speakers. Can anyone suggest replacements for the door speakers and the dash speakers that will complement my musical preferences?

I don't want to have to add an amplifier, and I like what the the headliner speakers add to the mix. I have replaced my stock HU with a Pioneer AVIC-D2, which was a definite improvement over the radio that came with the FJ.

I somewhat realize the limitations of the FJ factory speakers, but please understand that I don't require the kind of shuddering bass that I hear when I pull up next to some cars at intersections.

If anyone has any practical speaker recommendations for me, I'd really appreciate it....

The folks at crutchfield could help with some recmmendations. For me, I was only replacing the door speakers (no extra amp), and they suggested the infinity (6012 i's I think). A definite improvement over the stock speakers, and will do fine, although for me to be really impressed I may have to replace the stock deck/or get an amp and some other speakers at some point.

Re: Speakers for a Jazz Fan

There are lots of choices, and overall best thing to do is listen.

Personally, I'd avoid a metal tweeter for jazz. Piano highs, etc can be a bit much when the volume is turned up. But you may enjoy the bright sound... and many speakers allow you to lower the tweeter volume...

For deck power alone you need to find a more sensitive speaker to take advantage of the lower power the deck pumps out vs and amp. Probably why the infinity's were suggested by crutchfield.

I like a lot of "air" in my speakers(high's, You know brass.) I've found that my ear's like polk audio car speakers. I too listen to Jazz, but the heavy stuff like Monk and Coletrain. Give them a listen and see if they are for you.

The Polk db690 model is one of the speakers that the Crutchfield phone representative suggested to me. Price seemed pretty good, too....but, I'd rather hear a recomendation from one of my FJ brethren than from a guy trying to sell me something. Thanks!

I have a pretty good ear and some experience in Audio, You will be hard pressed to find a better quality sound at a sane price then the XR's from JLAudio. They replaced Original German MBQuarts in my last system.
Whatever you do however, listen before you buy (especially speakers)

Jazz listener too. I had Infinity's installed. Makes a world of difference. I have them in my wrangler too, they really get cranked up when the tops down and sound great. I think you'll be happy with them

Re: Speakers for a Jazz Fan

Morel speakers for the dash or doors, Memphis speakers for the dash and Focal speakers for the door. Either combination is fine. These prices are sort of pricey but the sound quality is bar none! For get about the MB Quarts , Infinity's and JLs.

Thanks, Rubicon....I haven't found a local retailer yet that carries the JLAudio brand, but I'll be looking around more this weekend. I appreciate everyone's input.
