My dealer said we do in the sense that they can read error codes and a few other things when error code occurs but not sure if it records things that can be used for legal issues.. Maybe ROVERGGM can chip in...I am curious too
There is a section in the Owner's manual that states all the information it stores. It will only be a matter of time before Insurance Company's try to get access to this information after a crash so they can use it against you not to have to pay out.

I searched, I swear....well...I swear a lot, but I never saw an article that jumped at me.
Its in the manual for sure. I remember reading it but I dont think it was ever discussed on forum as main subject. It was part of another duscussion....
Are you referring to an EDR (Event Data Recorder) which records many pieces of information immediately preceding a crash like:
Speed
throttle position
airbag deployment
brake application
seat belt position
Seems like a 4th Amendment problem on unreasonable search and seizure, but several rental companies install much more sophisticated devices for their tracking of use. Can't you see the traffic officer plugging in his device, download, prints the ticket, sends it to the county courthouse and state of origin of driver...etc. etc.

I honestly do not believe that is the case. Debate for another time I suppose.
Could it actually be to try an engineer better safer cars? Could the information not be used Against the automaker IF a safety system fails?
Little more complex than just an Insurance Industry conspiracy.
