I'm looking to just replace my stock speakers with the same size as what's in there now, just a better quality. Does anyone have the dimensions for these 6 speakers. I asked Toyota and they refused to give me this information.
I realize there are multiple threads on this subject, but I was hoping for a simple install for those of us electronically challenged. Thanks!
I remember a post a couple of months ago that detailed the installation of the dash and door speaker replacements, but naturally the "search" function doesn't locate it despite using every combination of "dash", "speaker", "installation", "pictures" etc. that I can think of.
My question is, how easy are the dash speakers to install? I'd like to put in some 3.5" replacements, but is there any cutting or serious modification involved in this?
Or, is it just basically unscrew the existing speakers and screw in the new ones?
Here's a quick run down, but I'd still do a search some guys have some detailed steps with pics that I found helpful.
I did it with some JBL 3 1/2 GTOs. Install is easy, The cover's pop out, I used a dental pic to hook around the grill and slowly pulled until the first clip gave. Be careful to protect the A pillar with some plastic or paper, I almost scratched it as I was liftng the cover out. Remove the stock bracket ( a couple of 10mm screws) and your out. I just used some sheet metal screws to mount. I did have to trim the underside of the stock grill with a dremel to allow for the new speaker clearance.
Pretty easy. I used the same 3 1/2s in the rear deck and bought some grills from TRDSource, (required some trimming under the cover as well). I got a wiring harness from Crutchfield for the rears. (makes the rear install easy) Cardomian.com has the JBLs on sale under hot deals for 30 Bucks, they sound pretty good with the stock power.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I've read a lot of those other posts and they seemed almost to technical. Your answers were a great help and may allow me to install my own.
Circuit City is reasonable on install. As per my thread. You can get 6 speakers replaced with Polk Audio for 404.00. You don't even have to watch. Thats why I did it that way, too much aggravation for me. The set up in my thread gave me an unbelievable difference in sound quality, the stock speakers are just junk..
Just bought 4 Infinity Kappa 3.5's for the dash and rear and 2 6x8 Infinity Kappa's. I'll have these in 3 days and I'll install myself. I'll try to post pictures and tips as soon as I have them in.
Total Cost $240.00 shipped. for 6 speakers. Wish me luck

The install is not as hard as some make it out to be. I have some pictures (in my photo gallery) of the dash (3") and rear speakers (4") during the install process.
