OK, the new one works. I can see text and control it from the steering wheel.

Some things I don't like but can live with:
2) The dock plug is bigger than the Apple's dock plug which means I have to remove the iSkin case.
3) For text that's longer than the screen, it doesn't scroll so you only see the first couple of words.
5) As every engineer can agree with, I wish there was a way to reset the box from the dock connector, like a reset button. I have the box hidden in the dash, so if I have to reset everything I need to pull the radio fuse. That's kind of a pain.
2. I run a thin black case on my iPod, the plug goes in fine, yours must be a little tighter around the end?
3. Yes, I get this too, wish it would scroll, but that is the FJammers fault, not even CD text from an audio or MP3 CD will scroll.
5. That is why I suggested to mount the DICE in the glove box after reading at the beginning of this thread.
The only time I ever pulled the fuse was during the very first setup.
I am not sure if that step is truly needed or not.

Glad the new unit is working fairly well for you though.

Have you tried pressing and holding the Text button? It won't scroll, but it will show you the rest of the characters. At least it does on MP3 CDs.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Well it just got home from Toyota and so far this is the biggest piece of crap that I've ever wasted $150.00 on. I have yet to see text in the display, except for the normal CD number and track. When I hit the "text" button all I see in the display is " * " and when I try to use the steering wheel controls it changes from album to album and not track to track. To make things worse, the tech at Toyota who installed this unit put the damn black box behind the FJammer itself, and not in the glovebox, as I told Mrs. 5150 to be sure and tell them. Even worse than that, he didn't leave enough slack in the wire for the IPOD to be able to sit in the cup holder when I want it to. Now, I am going to have to take the damn dash apart myself to make things right or pull the P.O.S. altogether.

Angry Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Not only that but the P.O.S. somehow removed all my album cover pictures from my IPOD. I am so done with this unit, it's really not worth all this frikkin hassle!

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Tony, sorry to hear all the troubles you are having.
Not sure how it could erase your album art.

When did you get your FJ?
Did you read further back I mentioned the earlier FJs had defective FJammers?
There should be a TSB to get yours replaced.
Not sure if that effects the firmware update or not on the DICE.

Since my rig is only a few months old, I have the newer repalced FJammer in mine.

Also make sure your head unit is on CD1 and not CD2, CD3, ect, or the steering wheel controls and the head unit will change from album to album, or playlist to playlist is not set on CD1.

Corey, I got my FJ at the end of June. I'm pretty sure it's not the FJammer as I haven't had any of the issues reported by the very first owners. Anyway, you have mail.

By the way , Great taste in music. Got into the punk scene in the early 80's and never left it.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

One more thing, the idiots at the Dealership lost one of my black rubber cupholder inserts. They didn't install it as I asked them too and they return my vehicle incomplete. It's a good thing that Mrs. 5150 works for them or the customer service reps would have an earful come Monday morning. I guess that I am going to have to be there for any future installations as the better half apparently does not know how to survey a vehicle before signing the work order and check. I was hot before but am really fired up about the cup holder thing.

On a more positive note, after a little help from Corey, I have gotten the steering wheel controls to switch tracks on one album. I also restored my album artwork by plugging the IPOD into the PC and starting iTunes. The difference in sound is truly unbelievable and is 10 times better than an IPOD plugged to the AUX jack. In addition, so far, I am not having the intermittent recognition problems that some of you are reporting. So after getting over my initial rage about the dealership's installation, and the odd functioning of the unit, I have decided that it is a worthwhile investment even though mine does not display text as advertised.

Anyway, I'm going to relocate the box and cord to the glovebox MYSELF, when I have some free time, and then get ahold of DICE about the Text feature not working.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Tony
I feel your frustration. I called DICE and they sent me a new unit last Friday. It fixed the text issue. Seems they might be having some confusion shipping the lastest firmware. Definitely helps to have the box installed in the glove box. Following Corey's instructions is pretty easy, I can now get to the FJammer in under 5 minutes.

Also agree on the sound. The dock connector will always sound better than the headphone jack. There's one less conversion stage when using the dock connector. I like not having to up the volume over 40 just to barely hear the iPod.
