Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Has anyone had any luck, or lack of luck, with the updated DICE unit? I have one, and sent it off to get fixed. But before it came back, I got a D3 and therefore can no longer use or test it.

I'd like to know if the sync issue is completely fixed. If it's not, I'll probably sell the unit. If it is, then I'll probably give it to a good friend with an FJ.

I would also like an answer to this. I dont have a dice yet, was on the fence about all the issues I've read about it. My tolerance for the poor sound quality of the ipod to faxtory aux input however is getting worse.

Help! anyone have recommendations/suggestions or alternatives for ipod to fjammer connectivity?

What I really want is:
-to control my ipod with steering controls
-fjammer display artist/track info
-improved sound quality over ipod to aux fjammer crap

Anyone out there who'll recommend the dice unit and say its worth the investment/bugs before I take the plunge? (or not)

Me.

I bought the older version (est. September last year). It still works ~ 80% perfectly. And if it doesn't, I test it upon start-up. If the DICE isn't recognized, I simply, turn the FJC off, and restart. Once in ~ 20 times, I have to turn off the FJammer, unplug the unit, turn off the FJC, and then reconnect, and start up everyting again.

It takes ~ 45 seconds.

Note I've been afraid to send it in for the flash update - I'm afraid it'll be more buggy than what I have. I do NOT have text/title info, and that's OK with me.

It was definitely worth $150. I can live with this forever - it's Good Enough, and I use it nearly every day.

Sandi

Here is what I've done to install the Dice iPod integration unit.

I'm limited to five pictures so I'll have to spread this across multiple posts to get the entire thing in. If one of the moderators want to post the entire thing, I can send you a Word file (1.5 Mb or so).
  1. Here is what you get in the kit:
    • 1 plugs into 5 (the main unit)
    • 2 plugs into 3
    • 4 plugs into the back of the FJ Jammer
    • 6 plugs into 5 (the main unit)
    • 7 plugs into the iPod
    • The remaining two ends are dead weight (I actually cut the one of them off to reduce the chance of rattles developing).

    Attachment 3785
  2. Here is what it looks like connected up (without the wire connecting to the iPod); number 1 connects to the stereo – numbers 2 / 3 are not used.

    Attachment 3786
  3. Here is what we are putting it into – no, it’s not relevant to the install … it just makes me happy

    Attachment 3790
  4. Remove the outer trim by taking out the two screws at the bottom (red circles) and pull up from the lower end.

    Attachment 3787

    Attachment 3788

Isn't the port used on back of radio same one used by XM modulator?

I think it's the CD changer port.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Here is a quick comparison of DICE and VAIS products; even if you don't want the VAIS, it does talk to some of the features available to each unit.

They may have fixed the issues with the DICE since I tried but, after 3 units, I was done with them. Thing would just not connect about 1/8 times; you would then have to turn the truck off and restart it. PITA if you were just running around town stopping a lot. After installing the VAIS, I've never looked back ... has worked 100% for nearly a year now. Big drawback with the VAIS unit is that you can't control the deck through the iPod; that is, you have to use the deck to navigate. I like to pick playlists and use random so not an issue for me ... is a problem for many though.

DICE vs. VAIS

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

I had the same restart problem with DICE. Sent it in 2 weeks ago for a firmware upgrade and that problem is gone. The only odd thing I saw was that one time I got garbage text on the display. I skipped forward/back and the display came back. Never happened again.

For now, I'm happy w/ it.
