Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
Yeah, ticks me off as it was $169 delivered.
But maybe they will get this fixed.
A year from now I will not care, as I am putting in an Alpine W200 and steering wheel control adaptor, my old Rockford 500a2 amp, and my JL 15" W6 sub.
And of course new door and front speakers.
But for now I would at least like to have what I paid for work right.
30 day warrenty on it, I may be demanding my money back soon.

looks great!! one question for you....isn't this mounted directly to the airbag power supply (yellow covering)? I thought that particular harness should always be free.....

I saw that in there, but choose to jsut stuff it behind the stereo.
OK, I just heard from Alan, and I have not received a phonecall back yet from DICE's tech support.

Corey,
Yes that is the word I am getting. When the update comes out you will be able to update the firmware on your DICE module by using the iPod and your computer. I do not have an exact date yet on the release but we will keep you posted.
Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
rjp or ace, did you call the woman at DICE?
She said she spoke with someone from CA.
I old her what Alan emailed me, and she says that is not correct, and she does not know where he got his information from.
She says they are are going to get an FJ Cruiser in later to test the unit out on and work from there.
When the unit is ready, she will email or call us if you gave her your info.
The unit can not be upgraded as Alan told me, we will need a whole new unit.
Hopefully they will just send us one, then we can return the present one.
iCarKits.com did not have permission to sell this as being compatible with the FJ Cruiser.

You could be right ... I was just looking for a place to secure the device. I don't understand why a power supply needs to be free though; I get why I wouldn't put it on top of the airbag but what's the deal with the power supply. it is secured to the frame at that point so it's not like it needs to move around.
Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
Alright, I did not have a chance to call Dice today. However I made 2 calls to them 2 days ago and did say I was from California. The only news I can offer is in a nut shell the Techsupport supervisor said they are aware of no alpehanumeric text on some 2006 Toyota's And they are working on a fix which includes a firmware update. They were not specfic as to what model Toyota's and I did not ask. Now Alen at iCarKits said it was compatible with the FJ. I recall his web site showed a diffrent part number than what I received or maybe I just read it wrong. I don't know. I do know the part I received is just a generic part that fits most Toyota's. I was considering getting a diffrent brand that is white that starts with a "P", can't remember the name. However, they do not have one for the FJ yet. And I don't know anything above that as of yet.
As far as not having any text on the screen is really no big deal to me. Sure it would be nice. Once the firmware is avail. I will get it. It might be since our car is so new that not alot or any testing has really been done yet for a device like the Dice and others. I'm going to give them the benifit of the doubt and just wait for them to come through for us. Now if something say in a month comes out that works the way some of us want it to and it sells for say $100.00, sure I will go buy it and eBay my Dice. But I was the first to get this and give it a test run. I was too under the impression after talking to Alen that it would have text. I'm just really glad to a point that it works and I no longer have a mess of cables by the gear shifter. But I do feel that Alen may have over sold the product and I may have passed to much information forward to soon. So that my be somewhat my fault. Although I think counting myself that their is only 2 or 3 other people who really already have it installed and working.
I did notice one thing I hate... If you turn the radio off by pressing the Volume control in and then shut the car off. You can not get the CD1 to come up. Maybe this is just me. But I had to shut the car off and leave the radio on befor shutting the car off to regain contol of the ipod again. Has anybody else had this issue to???
Bottom line for me is I am just going to roll with it the way it is and check back about every 2 weeks with dice so see how the firmware update is comming.
On a side note to other forum users. If you have pulled your Fjammer out and are no longer using it, how about sending it to Dice so as they don't have to buy one and they can get a jump start on this for us end users of the Dice product.
I'm Also going to call them on Monday and let them know their product is sparking a lot of intrest here on this forum and a lot of people would be more inclined to get one if they could get the text working. See what they have to say about that! It can only help their sales and bottom line.
Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
I opened an online ticket with DICE through their web site; here is the reply:
Adam - Hello Ryan, we are currently having text issues with the newer models of Toyota, however we are testing each and every week to resolve this. As soon as we do, you will be able to send us the module for updating and we will send it back. Sorry for this inconvenience. Best Regards, DICE Support
Like AceTechno, I'm happy with the product as is but would be even happier with the text. Being an early adaptor means some hassle ... that's just life (this will probably apply to the FJ as well). I've also opened an online ticket with the place I purchased the unit from (can't remember the name now) and am waiting for them to get back to me.
Anyway, out biking in the Canadian Rockies tomorrow - life is good.
I did some research into the cheaper unit- made by USA Spec (http://www.usaspec.com/). It is cheaper because it makes no claim on text display on the head unit. Merely lets you control the iPod from the head unit.
My take is that if you just run playlists, then this would be a great option. If you want total remote control of your iPod, then wait for the Dice unit to be done.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
Keep in mind my friends, if you bought your iPod kit from iCarkits.com like I did they do offer a 30 day full $$$ refund no questions asked and a 1 year replacement for warranty issues. If all else fails we can return the Dice box back to iCarkits.com in about 320 days from now and say it has stoped working and they will send a replacement. (Keep your sales invoice) Hopefully with a firmware update if Dice falls through. Just another thought as a last result.
