Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
Driving back to the house today and my iPod connection stopped working. I was still able to get music but I could not use the steering wheel controls and the iPod stayed on when I turned the car off. No amount of messing around seemed to help so I pulled the stereo fuse - after that, all was good.
Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
A few days ago I lost connection and only saw the aux when I pushed the mode button on the steering wheel or the head unit.
Could not get CD1 to come up which is required to let the iPod work.
Went inside for awhile, fired up the rig then it worked.
Do not know whether to blame Apple, DICE, or Toyota for this one.
Have you heard anymore news yet on our update?
I have not had time this week to contact that woman at DICE.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
Yes, it is very misleading.
They are not authorized from DICE the maker of the unit to sell it for the FJ Cruiser.
I like the unit, and I just put up a HUGE tech write-up on my forum in the Tech Article area yesternight about it.
(My forum is offline now, host is looking into it, hard drive may have crashed)
DICE is looking into it though, and will upgrade us when then get done testing it with a real head unit from an FJC.
Other than the fact that the text for the song does not diplay, it is a great unit.
If you can live without the text of the song showing on the FJammer, I would get it.
It works fully with your steering wheel buttons and your head units buttons.

Did you get this figured out? I have an appointment next week to get one installed in my FJC...

I've had an issue on two separate occasions now - it's like the stereo "forgets" the DICE unit is installed; you get CD / AUX - no CD1 (iPod). I found that by turning the truck off and leaving it for a few minutes, it corrects itself (I actually pulled the fuse the first time to speed things along). All in all it works fine 99% of the time. I love having the unit but if I were to do it all over again, I would wait a few months and save the time / effort in shipping the unit back for a firmware update.
With all of this said, it may just be my unit and the others are all fine (with the exception of the text not displaying of course). I’ll provide updates as time goes by – probably focused around the weekends as I don’t use the FJ to drive downtown.
Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
After getting out in the FJ a few more times and using the DICE unit, I have to say that I am less than impressed. Unless my unit has a one-of defect, I would not recommend buying this product.
50% of the time I get music with complete control of the iPod from the stereo
25% of the time there is no recognition that anything is connected (no CD1)
25% of the time I get music without any control from the stereo
There could be a pattern I’m not aware of (e.g. shutting off the car and starting it within a few minutes) but, if there is, I haven’t found it yet. This is, of course, in addition to having no text (a known issue). I would welcome comments from others who have installed the unit to see if this has been your experience as well.
I’m also unhappy with the support I have received from icarkits.com; the 1-800 number does not work in Canada (probably not an issue for most of you) and I have not gotten a response to any of the email I have sent.

Part of your problem is the unit out for sale now is not designed for the FJ Cruiser - they are still working on the firmware revisions required to make it work properly on the FJC, and Dice is expecting it to be available within a couple of weeks. Icarkits.com should know this and should refund your purchase or upgrade it when the new unit is out...
