iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Here is what I've done to install the Dice iPod integration unit.

I'm limited to five pictures so I'll have to spread this across multiple posts to get the entire thing in. If one of the moderators want to post the entire thing, I can send you a Word file (1.5 Mb or so).
  1. Here is what you get in the kit:
    • 1 plugs into 5 (the main unit)
    • 2 plugs into 3
    • 4 plugs into the back of the FJ Jammer
    • 6 plugs into 5 (the main unit)
    • 7 plugs into the iPod
    • The remaining two ends are dead weight (I actually cut the one of them off to reduce the chance of rattles developing).

  2. Here is what it looks like connected up (without the wire connecting to the iPod); number 1 connects to the stereo – numbers 2 / 3 are not used.

  3. Here is what we are putting it into – no, it’s not relevant to the install … it just makes me happy

  4. Remove the outer trim by taking out the two screws at the bottom (red circles) and pull up from the lower end.

  5. Remove the two screws at the outer edge of the face plate (red circle shows left side)

  6. Pull the face plate out and remove the three plugs at the back (red circles)

  7. Remove the four bolts holding the stereo in (red circles show left pair) and pull the stereo out.

  8. There is only one empty port to plug the unit into:

  9. Unplug all of the existing connections to ensure there is no power running to the stereo (if you know which plug powers the unit, you can save 10 seconds). Plug the iPod connection into the stereo and then plug the standard connections back in.

  10. Open the glove box; squeeze the sides and pull it out from the dash (you will not be taking it off – just having it sit down farther than when it is open all the way).

  11. Fish the line that connects the main unit (black box) to the iPod; I taped one end to a screw driver to help get it through.

  12. Here is where I decided to mount the black box – I wanted it on the right side of the stereo to maximize the amount of line I had, through the glove box, and to the iPod. This allows me to take the iPod out of the glove box and bring it all the way to the center console.

  14. Here are two pictures showing the unit mounted using two zip ties; it seems solid but I’ll wait until winter to see if any rattles develop. Realistically, I’ll probably pull it when the firmware update is available.

  15. Put everything back together – if you need pictures, just scroll up
  16. Once complete, the iPod can be stored in the glove box; should you want it close by, you can pull it out and set it into a cup mounted holder on the center console (obviously I don’t have one right now). The glove box will close with the iPod hanging out.

Much Respect to rjp for puting it in order and giving us lots of pic's. This is step by step right down to the 'T'. And he stayed up late to do it to. I can 2nd that on how it all goes together, being that I too have the same set up and it works the same way. Big Props again. Good Job.

Re: iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions

Nice writeup! A couple of questions:

1) Do you loose CD player functionality?
2) Do any of the FJammer buttons control the iPod?

Thanks!

My questions (and more) are answered in this thread: iPod Pluged into the Fjammer 'SAT' port
