I'm curious what folks think about the FJammer MP3 playback from CD-R's. I admit I've not done much testing as I just got my rig yesterday, but so far I'm not impressed. Regular audio CD seemed on par for a stock rig (In other words it needs an upgrade).
When I played some MP3 kid's songs for my boys from a CD-R it was pretty scratchy. It had sort of a torn speaker kinda note to it. Any one else notice poor quality MP3 playback? I've played this disk elsewhere without this problem.
I'll do a more critical test with different encoding rates and WMA files as well, but I'd love to hear what others think.
Standard Search Disclaimer:
I did search... None of the MP3 threads I saw were dealing with the AUX input jack / ipod connections. If I missed one dealing with this I apologize.
Burning at a lower speed probably wont do much unless you are having buffer read ahead problems which most burners dont have a problem with anymore.
At what bit rate are you ripping your mp3?
Remember that MP3s are a severely inferior quality compared to a reagular store bought 14 track CD. But you can get a heck of alot of songs on a disk. It's a trade off.
I rip at 196 kb/s. 128 is as low as I would go. You start to hear the trace elements, which you may be hearing, if ripped any lower.
Also which program and with what CODEC are you ripping with?
You probably just have some tunes that were ripped porly and its more obvious in the FJ because the highs seem to be tinny and exagerate the MP3 imperfections.
OK, I'm an idiot, I thought I was playing the MP3 version but was not. I was just playing a really crappy audio disk, no fault of the player.
The disk in question has two versions for my kids - The original MP3 version, and the Audio (ie cda files) version I created FROM the MP3 files. This is, of course, a bad idea that I only did for a outdoor B-day party thing.
