Post Bass blockers? Should they be used in the dash/rear?

If using DB400 4" and/or or Pioneers in the back/dash .... is it a good idea to install bass blockers so these don't distort when you crank it up? That way, the dash and rear are basically tweeters.

(Get Bass from Sub and/or 6x9s in the doors)

They are cheap - <$3 - just wonder if they are worth it.

Yes, good idea. The factory ones already have them. You could re-use those if you wanted.

This is all in your xovers. I assume since you are going 6x9 you don't have any. So you may to configure at your head unit (best) or your amp (ok).

How are you planning powering all your speakers?

Re: Bass blockers? Should they be used in the dash/rear?

dont get me wrong on this but....

get a 4 chan amp and use chan 1 and 2 for some nice speakers up in the doors, they can be 6x9 or 6's or even 5's.

then take chan 4 and 5 and bridge them (left + and right -) and tie them into a sub of your choice. a 8 or 10 will be perfect! Heck ill make and sell the box to ya. i just wanna see you happy.

yes you want caps or bass blockers on those smaller speakers. just think of how much a sub really moves, those little ones cant do that!

Not sure what else you are running, but as a rule of thumb. If you are running amps you will not need bass blockers because you can use the crossovers on the amp to control the lows going to the speakers. You can use a high pass filter for it.
If you are using the factory radio, i would recomend bass blockers for speakers 5" and smaller. Putting bass blockers on 6" and largers will actually remove usable frequencies.
Of course common sense and not playing speakers to the point of distortion will help them stay in good shape and not blow.

Re: Bass blockers? Should they be used in the dash/rear?

Wow - thanks for the help. I will be getting a 6.5LCD head, already ordered 6x9 Focals, 3.5 Pioneers for the front dash, 4.0 DBs for the back, have a 500-watt 5-channel JL amp ... no sub ... love the blue FJCruiserAudio box, but $500.00. Luckily, a friend of mine knows more about stereo than me. He brought up the Bass Blockers, never heard of that before. Off Ebay.

Well, I know there a lot better ones out there, but for the bass I want, a 10" Alpine R would be fine, about $100.00. If I had a floor/box enclosure, I like the Alpine X type - $225.00 or so? One sub only, and I like the subs on the opposite/passenger side.

What I like about the FJCruiseraudio enclosure is the it is up and out of the way.

Re: Bass blockers? Should they be used in the dash/rear?

Oh yeah, I have an Eclipse AVN 5435, but this time around I want a no-name China special. They do the job and play everything. They even have a USB plug on the front + SD.

Download Mpeg4s from Google Video and plug them in via the USB, watch on the road....

Noisy, be careful with the choice of subs you use with the amp. You will find that the amp probably only puts out about 200watts for the bass. This is not enough to properly push a new type R subwoofer, that will really run much better with 400-500watts. It will be a little underpowered running off a 5th chan. I would go with a W3 as a good alternative, a little less output, about the same price, and runs like a champ at 150-200watts.
