Post Sirius S50 Install - pics

Pulled my S50 out of my TL when I sold it and finally got around to putting in my FJ this weekend.

Antenna location -

I ran the antenna cable along the window seam edge into the hood and through a hole in the fender to the drivers side door. Once I had the cable at the door I fed it thorugh the edge of the rubber seal that protects the door wiring and under the dash.

I then fed the antenna cable through the thumb hole in the fuse box access panel. I also fed the power and audio cable through the same hole after running them under the dash. I plan on splicing the "aux" connection and power instead of using the outlets, got lazy...

Finished location - I LOVE it! It looks as if it was designed to be installed there. I used 3M Mounting tape so I can remove it once I go to a dash mounted NAV unit which I will also incorporate a rear view camera and Sirius.

Re: Sirius S50 Install - pics

I was going to put the antenna on the back hatch and fish it through the door sills to get it up front but after looking at your pics, I think i'll put it where you did. A lot less work and it looks good too.

Re: Sirius S50 Install - pics

my sirius antenna is up front in the middle as well, seemed to me the roof rack was going to interfere with reception when mounted in the rear.

Good install. When I get my FJ I'll do something like you did but with XM instead.

Re: Sirius S50 Install - pics

before starting a new thread, i thought id bring this one back to life with some questions.

first, how are you powering the s50? i know ur splicing the power from somewhere, but could you be a little more specific? also with splicing the aux.

my girlfriend just bought the s50 for me and im trying to figure out the cleanest, most versatile way of mounting it, without making any holes or leaving any sticky glue if taken out.

does 3m double sided tape come off cleanly?

i need help and ur install looks real good

please help

Re: Sirius S50 Install - pics

I bought a 12VDC "Y" adapter from Radio Shack for my temporary solution, eventually I will splice into some power under the dash. I also purchased a stereo patch cord to connect directly to my AUX port from the S50.

I like my mounting location, except now I want to put my CB mic in the same spot. The 3M tape removes fairly easily and what doesn't comes off with goof-off.

Re: Sirius S50 Install - pics

thanks
i mounted mine similar to someone else on the board, i just cant remember who.
antenna is up front on near the windshield right next to the radio antenna. it looks pretty clean like that and its not too noticeable, which is what i like.
mounted the unit to the passenger side of the center console right next to the 4wd shifter.
cables are a llittle messy though the power cable is too long and so is my current aux cable. i have a retractable aux cable on the way in the mail, but dont really know what to do witht he power cable. folding it up and zip tieing it still would be a little messy imo but, i guess until i figure out something else itll have to do.
also, i was reading in the manual and it says that if you use any other power cable other than the ones provided, it could mess up the batery. anyone know if this is true?
