Total Chaos 2" price question

can someone tell me how much the 2" long travel setup costs? I can't find any price except for the extended axle shafts to retain 4wd. I already have the shocks and jounce shocks, and I want to install this kit on my new rig.

Re: Total Chaos 2" price question

By the way, the shocks that this kit uses are different than the regular fox coilover lift shocks.

Yes, the 2" LT shocks are longer than those for a straight stock replacement using stock length lower and upper control arms. The good news is there's a choice of (at least) Fox, Icon, King and Sway-A-Way that have already been run on the kit. The shock length for the 2" and 3.5" LT are the same.

Re: Total Chaos 2" price question

Like you noticed you also have to buy the longer axel shafts as well. When you do this kit there is also a few key stock Toyota seals to change out as well. If you have any questions on this kit we have quite a bit of experience with it. We also offer pre-building your CV's in our shop with new OE boot kits as to speed your instal, or you can follow our DVD showing how to rebuild the CV's yourself available only to our TC customers. Metal-tech is one of the only 5 WD's for Total Chaos as well.

Re: Total Chaos 2" price question

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I have the Icon extended travel front coilovers. I got the impression that these will work in this kit. Does Icon make a special shock just for use with this kit, or am I good with what I've got? I'm pretty positive I'm going to go this way, and I'm most likely going to get it through Metal Tech. I'll have to figure out the CV deal and let you know when I order it. Thanks again!

Re: Total Chaos 2" price question

I dont think the shocks your are running now will work. They are a longer shock for longer travel. You may also want to brace the shock towers since you cut it for the reservoir hose.

Here is mine

Re: Total Chaos 2" price question

Why did you have to cut the shock tower for the reservoir hose? I didn't have to.

Yes Icon makes a special long travel shock just for this system. The extended travel front coil overs from ICON sold for the stock lower arm, will not work with the 2" kit. It does not have enough travel. When you put the new shock one you will see a monster difference as the longer spring has more squat so you have a softer ride.

Paul Thompson's website has video of the install and a cool wheel well clip showing the suspension in action.

We have not installed a FOX shock on the TC system to date, being that we are a WD for both ICON and Sway-a-way. However both the ICON and Sway-a-way custom built shocks for this kit do not require any cutting or modifications to the stock shock tower. We do recommend and include with all our 2" long travel kits (unless ask not to) the TC knuckle braces. The stock knuckles will bend if you sneeze on them.

I do like your photos, cool double shear on the upper's. Nice.

Re: Total Chaos 2" price question

Give Mark or LT a call at Metal Tech. They can hook you up with all the parts and provide a lot of advice. My rig was one of the first to get a 2" TC long travel up grade back in 2008 and they spent a long time discussing all the components with Total Chaos and Sway-A-Way engineers.

Also if you will be doing it yourself make sure you ask Mark to include Toyota seals, hub cover, boot kit and lube. TC would have you re-use these parts. Mark and LT's experience with FJs paid off since they went ahead and picked them up. After seeing what the seals looked like I was was glad not to reuse a few dollar part on the new suspension.

BTW: if you are going to do the install yourself here is a good video on taking apart the FJ Cruiser half shafts. Mark uses an old school FJ trick rather than cutting the axel as TC recommends.

here is how my rig turned out... I would do it again in a heart beat... best mod I've ever done to the rig.

Good luck to you
