Don't forget to look at MetalTech's new LT rear end

Re: The Best Long Travel kit for the FJ?

Thanks for all the info! I will continue to research and re-check this thread. I was thinking All Pro first because I live close to them (Great bunch of People) but I want to make sure before I drop that much money!!!

If you live close to All-pro, by default you live somewhat close to camburg, TC, demello, icon, etc. (by SoCal driving standards at least).

Yeah, I'm biased, but you can't go wrong with the Total Chaos 2" LT. One correction to the above, Icon don't do a LT kit, but you can put their shocks/coils on the TC LT kit. You need to find a shock/coil you like anyway since the stock coilovers or aftermarket coilovers for the stock arms don't fit.
Icon has extended travel coil-overs. What is the difference between long travel and extended travel?

Thanks

About $3000.

Sorry, had to.

The extended travel simply takes the stock geometry and gives you a little extra travel. A true LT kit gives you a lot more travel, but you need to replace upper & lower control arms, you need new CV's, amongst other things (limit straps, air bumps, etc., etc.).

Re: The Best Long Travel kit for the FJ?

here is a link to a video and write up on my Total Chaos Long Travel Build This gives you a good idea of what goes into the build as well as showing the Total Chaos LT suspension at work.

There are a few choices to make including coil-overs and longer axles. I would recommend giving Metal Tech a call and talk to them about the pros and cons since they have a long history of working with long travel (including designing one of the best rear long travel kits) They can talk you through ICON and SAW pros and cons, They have their own high strength front axles and will spend the time with you to help you make an informed decision.

After more then a year now... daily driving, bombing desert roads and tackling the Rubicon I can say the LT is by far the best mod I've done with my rig.

good luck to you.
