best bang for your buck complete 3" lift

I am trying to decide if I want to spend the money on a new suspension.

I have a 2010, with a leveling Kit and oem suspension right now. Will be getting a demello offroad front bumper. Rear just has a ton of gear in it.it.

I want it to wheel well but It is my daily driver as well.

What would be my best option for a complete lift Kit? Not looking to spend too much.

Would the OME Kit toytec has be good? Should what spring weight?

I always recommend toytec since you can adjust the front coils if your bumper settles the coils.. just crank em up back to where they were ... i have standard superflex coils if i get a rear bumper i might need to upgrade

I have the ToyTec Ultimate with a heavy rear bumper and spare tire + a bunch of recovery gear, CO2, etc. in back and it seems to be doing fine.

Regardless of brand do not buy "cheap" buy "quality" at the best (lowest) price. I'd suggest Toytech or OME.

Ya I was thinking about the OME complete kit, I just do not know which spring weight I need.

I am thinking Medium.

Re: best bang for your buck complete 3" lift

rear coils and shocks easier to change .. i'd get adjustables up front.. cause if you sag your going to have to pull the front out and change the springs.. and medium might be to stiff for you up front

for a few dollars more you can get the Toytec Ultimate 3" lift...
and as the bus and others have said, being adjustable is a great benefit.
with OME your stuck with what you bought. The ride quality of the Toytecs are fantastic!!!

How does it ride compared to stock? Firmer? Squishier?

I can`t really say for sure. I did the lift at 1300 miles new...lol...
I did however experience the brake dive that quite a few talked about here. and recall the truck being a little more loose/sway with the stock suspension. On our model they were the Tokiko brand shocks... I have no doubt that a stock FJ with no mods can perform well and drive the freeways well, but start adding mods and bumpers, well you know the rest...lol...

The great thing about adjustable coil overs is that when you add weight you can bring the truck back up to the height you chose prior to bumper installation. I did just that after installing the Demello bumper and winch.

back to your question: the current ride is just right, I don`t experience any thunk or clunk from suspension parts. The Toytec does a very good job of daily driving, Off road trail riding where I go (Pine trails) and tows very well (suspension wise) when the boat is hooked up.
So I have to rate it an A+...
brake dive is minimized, cornering more stable and firmer, just keep in mind the center of gravity (COG) and change in height and tire size affects turning off the freeways onto jughandles at speed... we all have to use some common sense when these vehicles are lifted...

So I would have to say that it is firmer in the respect that the brake dive is much less, but not bone jarring when you roll over a bump in the road... we have these minor drop offs and rises when they patch the roads and the truck just goes right over them with minimal feel.
Of course tho, what height you choose bc of loading the coils and any additional weight will have variables in how your truck handles for you...

My assessment/judgement of the Toytec handling is from the many many vehicles I have owned over the years and what`s expected from stock to modified.

Hope this helps...

Re: best bang for your buck complete 3" lift

Well, I went with the $250 Rough Country 3" that included rear springs and longer rear shocks. Give's me the clearance I need, and springs instead of spacers in the back. I will eventually replace the front spacers with ICON's, but the rear seems to be doing just fine. I have a box I built back there with tools and everything, and there is still just a bit of rake so it looks good.

Toytec makes great stuff, and I've used their products before. However, until I figure out exactly what I want to do I just can't see paying around $1K. Yes it's no doubt better than the cheap Rough Country...but mine works just fine for now.

And, for $250, can't beat it.

Just my $.02!
