Suspension Mods to go FAST

I've seen some great ideas on here regarding suspension/tires/armor/etc mods for people who like to rock crawl. I'd rather set my 4x4 bare bones FJ up to go faster off-road. Looking for mod suggestions that would allow me to absorb serious bumps at faster speeds as I drive mostly across open desert or semi-graded dirt roads. I'd still like to crawl once in a blue moon, but that's certainly not my priority.

Re: Suspension Mods to go FAST

If you don't have the money to go long travel the next best thing would be to get some Icon remote reservoir coilovers for the front, Icon springs and pig back shock for the rear and also add some Icon chubby's (Light racing jounce shocks) up front to help soften the big hits. After market upper a-arm (UCA) Total Chaos, Camburg, or Icon is my recommendation, Icon's is the nicest but it is a lot of money next would be the Camburg then TC close behind, but all three are nice. In the rear you will also need to upgrade your LCA there are a lot of good options for this from Icon, Total Chaos, MAF....

I would also highly recommend you get some skid plates and rock rails to help protect your underbelly from rocks and dirt berms, check out Demello for that, you could actually get it all from him as he is a dealer for Icon, Camburg, Total Chaos, Light Racing....

Re: Suspension Mods to go FAST

I have very similar wheeling taste... bombing down washboard dirt roads...
I went with TC's 2" Long Travel kit. My rig also does duty as a daily driver. Here is a video of my long travel build.

Before the long travel kit, I ran 3" lift Sway-A-Ways (SAW) all around. SAW is based in desert racing and you can tell they are meant to go fast over rough desert roads. BTW: when I added the long travel kit I choose SAW again as the coil overs, similar to before but longer.
