I did a search and found discussions about off roading and Insurance. And mods and warranties. But nothing about Mods and insurance.
I just checked a couple insurance companies and both said they will not insure lifted or modified trucks.. One of the companies is my own Progressive. They will allow off-roading but no racing etc.
You guys with lifted trucks, What insurance companies are you using, and have you checked about lifts and mods?
crap, I have Progressive too. No lift yet but it's on the list. Did you get a definition of "modified". Rims and tires are modifications but I would imagine they would insure those.
I have Hartford and they have covered every truck I have ever had and all were jacked in one way or another. In my last Toy, my wife was driving it home about 6 years ago and some dumbass hits her by crossing over the center line head on and tore off the whole drivers side suspension and steering box. I called Hartford and they had a claims adjuster there the next day and paid for everything to be fixed and he even recommended to have the frame checked on a frame machine just be be safe and make sure the truck was alright. Long story short it took 6 months to get it done but it was back out showing the following spring. heres my old toy.
And I have my Ford right now thats covered by them as well as our new FJ that will soon be sporting a lift...5.5" hopefully....when available

Re: Lifted, Modified trucks NOT Insurable?
State Farm.
I've never told them specifically that I have modified vehicles, but they cover aftermarket accessories and add-ons as long as you have a receipt for them.
None of my vehicles except the FJC and the wife's Sequoia have collision and comprehensive on them anyway - too expensive, and I've never had an accident that was my fault, so the other guy's insurance always ends up paying, and they have to put it back the way it was no matter what their policy is for their own customers.
BTW I wouldn't have Progressive if it was the last insurance on earth - the CEO Lewis is an ultra-ultra left-wing moonbat buddy of George Soros. I just couldn't stand to pay his salary, no matter how cheap their insurance may be. No intention of making this into a political thread, just saying why I wouldn't buy Progressive - YMMV.

I have State Farm. I was insuring a F-250 Super Duty with an 8" lift (my hood was to the top of my head....and I'm 6'3"). They told me it was insurable as long as I had the receipts for the parts and work done.
The only problem I found was with the police. I'm also sure that if I ran into (or over, as the case may be) a little old lady in her Honda Civic, she would have sued the pants off me for driving an illegal vehicle and would have made me pay for all her medical bills.
My advice: Call the State Police and ask them about this...they have useful information regarding bumper height, tire size, etc.
Needless to say I dumped my monster for my FJ and have never been happier.

Ya I have it in writing but can't get the pdf on the Progressive site to copy here. You can have modifications but they cannot be "substantial" it goes on to state that lowering or raising suspensions and oversize tires are "substantial modifications"
I think Progressive sends out their own adjusters(never had a claim). I don't have a lift but have been considering it. If you have a lift or oversize tires I bet they will deny your claim. I checked with another small company that writes policies for Flagstar bank customers Merastar. They had same policy.
Unless you are talking about a monster truck, most insurance companies won't car. Put $30k into it and don't expect anymore in a payout than STOCK replacement or blue book. Seems fair. Geico treats me very well.

I agree with you 100%. I guess I wonder if anyone out there has been denied a claim cause of the lifted truck? If the answer is no maybe it's a non issue. But having "no lift" stament in your policy could come back to haunt you. Just ask the people in LA, MS about having home owners ins that covered wind damage but not water damage.

Thanks t5gt, Looks like I need to review my policy a little more carefully.
