Alignment

Okay.....question.....

I dropped my FJ off at a local place to get it aligned after my lift...and they say that they can't do it b/c of some "laser guided steering" something another that they would have to deactivate w/ the scan tool.....and that only a toyota dealership can align an FJ.....

anyone have any insight/ideas/BS killers?

Re: Alignment

wtf.

maybe they just watched austin powers and were thinking of sharks with laser beams attached to their heads?

can you use your free alignment that you get from Toyota for this? I think you have to have less than 12K miles though

Re: Alignment

I had mine aligned on Friday.
It took 3 hours at the Toyota dealership!

The service manager just said " It's some process!"

I should have inquired more... I can call him tomorrow...

Re: Alignment

It's amazing the crap of information available out there!!

The alignment process is just like any newer 4runner, or for that matter, it's a standard alignment to those that know how to do an alignment.

Camber, Caster and Toe. That's all there is. Any certified mechanic should be able to do this without knowing what kind of car they are working on. Some manufactures use different practices to obtain road manners depending on what the vehicle is lacking in handling, but tell them to set it to an 05 or 06 4 runner and you're good.

Re: Alignment

It takes nothing fancy; I had mine done at a old school shop with no computers or lasers. He did it no problem and has done a couple in my area.

Re: Alignment

My post lift alignment was done last Friday by my local tire store. Its nothing special to do. 50$ was all. Find someone with an alignment rack, and half a brain and it will get done.

Re: Alignment

I recall another thread where someone had an alignment done and it caused the VSC light to come on. He had to have a scan tool put on it and recalibrate something.
