Fabtech Performance Lift or Donoho Kit

Well I have been an engineer with Toyota for a very long time. I was very exciting when I first found out about the FJ way back in 2001. I knew I had to buy one and tweak the heck out of it. So I ordered a load truck from the factory and it arrived in september.

Its been garaged since then, I've added a few items, cold air intake, piaa lights, yellow top optima battery, air horns.... and dynamatted the entire thing.

I believe now I ready for the next step a lift kit, wheels, and upgraded gears. I've been looking at FABtech Performance 6' lift. It looks well designed and very cool. I've never off roaded.... but I'm a bells and whistle type of guy.

My question is what is the best lift kit on the market. I like the design of the fabtech but I also see that many Dohono makes a good product as well. Please let me know. Thanks.

Be careful you might void the warranty.

The fabtech is more for looks were the DR is for function. I my self wouldn't touch a dropbracket lift like the fabtech I hate them but they work for some people. I see them as a glorifed body lift. Also the fabtech will be a lot more work to install over the DR. So for you it comes down to do you want looks (fabtech) or some looks & function (DR).

If you're a bells and whistles guy, definately the fabtech. It's pretty.

Re: Fabtech Performance Lift or Donoho Kit

As an engineer ('tho not a suspension engineer) I see drop brackets as a cost effective solution to getting lift for bigger tires. I do NOT view drop brackets as a bolt on means to get better high speed suspension travel.

The "total chaos" type of kit (Actually I think WCOR pioneered the bolt on extended A are concept) is IMHO the better way to get more "travel".

If your usage runs more towards rock crawling - I think the AllPro or a SAS is a better idea.

That beign said - I prefer the Donahoe setup for a bolt on upgrade that doesnt increase track width.

Re: Fabtech Performance Lift or Donoho Kit

With the variety of lift applications available for the FJ the decision comes from within. What do you want to do with your FJ? Are you simply looking for a means to look cool or give it a more aggressive look / leveled look? Do you want to take your FJ places where you need that additional lift? How much do you want to lift? How big a tire do you want to stuff? Do you plan to add additional weight? What is your budget? Depending on many of these questions, your application can vary.

Keeping all this in perspective, here's a good point of reference. There are 3 different lift technologies available; Spacer, Coil and Shock, Coilover. They all perform the same function ::LIFT::. The biggest difference is how each technologies are applied to the existing stock system and the final cost.

Give us some feedback on what you want and we'll try our best to help you out.

Good luck

Re: Fabtech Performance Lift or Donoho Kit

I am planning on taking the thing offroad. We dont live far from the desert, moutains or hills. So I would expect to be able to head out of town at least 1-2 times a month. Looking at the terrain, it will range from san, mud and rock.

Thanks for the assistance.
