I did not take measurements of the King rear shock when I installed the shocks but did notice that they were slightly longer than the stock ones. I believe the rear FJC shocks are a custom version of the 2.5" smooth body prerunner shocks King offers. You can contact Mike Eads at King for more technical details (714.530.3251). Are you considering going for the Kings for your 4runner?

Re: King suspension for the FJ Cruiser

I would consider them, but Kings kind of famously limit uptravel. They are more of a down travel type of shock. I'd love to get the specs though.

Yep, I'm looking for rear shocks. The OME 71Es are not really to my liking, even on the 4Runner. Tehy are only fine when loaded up for a trip, but ride pretty harsh when empty.

The Bilstein 7100s or DR rears are currently at the top of my list. The ability to get firmer valving to compensate for more weight later factors in as well. I believe the Kings will be able to get custom valving or at leasta choice like the Bilsteins.

Will contact King for the specs though.

King will offer custom valving and will revalve your shocks if you decide later down the road to change. This is their standard offering for prerunner shocks (race series are their bypass shocks).

Re: King suspension for the FJ Cruiser

Good to know on the valving. Their comp/ext specs listed above wont work well on the FJC or 4R, but I'm sur ethe shocks they used have better specs.

Good specs for the FJC rear would be around comp = 15" and ext 25" with 10" travel. Pretty much what the 7100s does and most of the other guys as well. Gives much better travel and flex than stock, but still resonable for the rear axle setup. More travel than that will start requiring interesting link setups, etc.

Good evening everyone,
I hope all is well out there and glad to hear all the good feed back on the Kings..
I have those on my FJ and they work great. The rear shocks are an 8.5" travel.I had a few kits sitting here and took some measurements when I had them.
Also the gentleman said that King is not famous for up travel suspensaion or something like that.I had talked to Lance King quite a bit when they did mine and just general shock talk and the Coilover kit is designed for 2.5" of wheel drop out.
That is what makes it ride so plush...
I had my FJ out at the Jeep Superstition run in January and gave the Jeep Freaks a run for there money...They did not like seeing the FJ and I had it loaded with 3 more people and a cooler and beat it up all day and still drove it home..
I am now working on my 07 Dodge Mega Cab coilover project and the same rule applies for that on the 2.5" wheel drop out..The Dodge rides like a 1/2 ton truck.
Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents and I hope it helps..
Thanks
Sonny

They look great!. Keep us posted on how you like em and how they perform on the trail for you. I want to upgrade to something a bit squishier than my medium weight OME's and these look to be a good contender with the DR's.
1,000 miles update

I was able to get the front end alignment brought back to factory specs without the need for aftermarket UCAs. I probably will eventually upgrade to the Total Chaos UCAs mainly for their increased strength and articulation. On pavement performance has improved tremensdously with the bob and sway tendencies reduced drastically; 35 mph curves can be taken at 60 (tire adhesion is the limiting factor). Handling offroad in the limited time I have has also improved. Will post another update when I have a chance to run through the washes out in Anza Borrego again. With the stock rear springs, the ride is level now (taken at inspiration point south of Julian).

The rear BFG AT TA 285/70-17 tires clear the rear reservoirs by about 3/4" (taken in parking lot of Rong Branch Restaurant in Julian).

Re: King suspension for the FJ Cruiser

Has anybody used the rear king shocks with longer rear springs like the donahoes. Were there any problems and what is the ride like because the kings are designed for stock springs.

I just finish the installation of a complete kit of King shocks! Amazing quality and result. I will post a thread of my new ride soon.
