I wouldn't give it a second thought. It's actually pretty useful since it causes the thread to show up in the most recent posts category, which is likely to draw the attention of many who might otherwise miss this thread; and nobody should miss it (if they wheel their vehicles).

Re: Lessons about CV axle failure

Oh man, I used to carry spare birfields on my 78' FJ40. I only had to spend one night on the backside of Mount Hood to figure that one out. Thank god I had a propane heater & a 5 gallon propane tank. This is an excellent topic, the original post is dead on, this is what off-roading, & being in a group is all about in my mind.

Re: Lessons about CV axle failure

^ X2 Yes, I agree. I was not such a big fan of having to carry around a spare.....

Until one day when I saw how easily they can snap, and then on our way home, Bernd's boot was ripped and leaking grease (thus, burning up the joint). Now, I have a used (rebuilt) for a spare. Of course, I do only carry it when I am off-roading, if I carried everything that I wanted to, all of the time, it would only be a "one-seater."

Re: Lessons about CV axle failure

Good little right up. As for someone just getting into this side of the spectrum of motorsports, I loved that read. I dont plan to do serious wheeling, but its good to know, none the less. Thanks!

Re: Lessons about CV axle failure

Great thread.
I didn't read all 14 pages.
What other spare parts should an FJ have aboard?
