Whats the deal with upgraded UCA's?

Allright, so I'm planning on picking up a lift sometime next week and was just wondering if I should pick up UCA's as well. I will be getting a suspension lift and am curious as to why people upgrade this piece. Does it allow for better offroading? Stronger? Why does one get a new UCA? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Whats the deal with upgraded UCA's?

1. Less stress on the UBJ (upper ball joint)
2. They look way cool
3. More tire clearance (inside)
4. Did I mention they LOOK cool

Re: Whats the deal with upgraded UCA's?

Don't worry about UCA's yet!

They were the absolute last mod I did. For the money, many better things can be done to make your offroading life easier.

They typcially fix alignment angles (FJ's are fine w/o), they are stronger, they have smoother travel, and they provide better clearance for tires.

Again though, I can't stress this enough, for the cost 700 ish, you can get WAY more usefull things. Like skid plates, a winch, upgrade in suspension, better recovery equipment, better CB, better tires, etc, etc, etc.

They also allow for slightly more articulation from your suspension and offer a noticeable improvement in overall ride quality (at least the Total Chaos and Donahoe UCA's did for me........yes, I've had them both).

Yes they will. My vehicle tracks better with them for sure.

Re: Whats the deal with upgraded UCA's?

I would highly highly highly highly highly HIGHLY recommend getting them. I listened to all the people here say you don't need them and went w/o for few months, but after white knuckling it around town and mostly on the freeways I came to the conclusion it is a MUST to get the UCA's. Also you WILL NOT be able to get your FJ aligned to factory specs unless you do get them. TC designed their UCA's with the caster needed to to dial everything in. Don't let anyone tell you different, you will be much happier with them I promise you!

TC are noisy if you don't grease them all the time

UCAs allow for your caster specs to be aligned properly. However you should know how to remove the UCA to do maintenance on them when they need to be regreased.

This is my take on upgraded UCA's. They shouldn't be your first mod, but I suggest you keep them on the list. The Scorpion

Not true anymore. TC's and DR's don't squeek at all anymore. TC's used to, but they've made changes to make them not squeek.
