Oh yes, another lift question..

I am a newb in every sense of the word when it comes to off-roading. So I need a shove on what lift kit to buy. What is the best 3in lift kit to buy in the $1,000 range more or less? Looking for a kit that comes with everything. Where to buy it would also help. I just want the best bang for the buck. Thanks guys. $2,500 burning a hole in my pocket this month.

Re: Oh yes, another lift question..

Are you going to be off-roading? 'cause if you're not, there's no need to spend that much. Even if you are wheelin, you don't need to spend that much, unless you want adjustable coilovers. Just think of the extra you would have for other things.

Lots of good ones out there, but it's hard to beat Old Man Emu.

X2. The Old Man Emu 3" lift kit is front and rear for about $700-750. Another $250 or so will get it installed, by a Toyota dealership no less.

The OME lift does not use spacers. It is a true coilover suspension replacement.

OME before & after pics

So. there's your $1000 or less . . . . with $1500 still left of your budget to spend on off-road tires, rock rails and a few more doo-dads.

Re: Oh yes, another lift question..

Ok I had my eyes on OME but was kind of unsure on which one to get. I plan on getting new front and rear bumpers, skid plates and rock sliders. unsure if I want to get a winch or not. I was thinking on just getting the heavy to play it safe...Is that a good choice? I do plan on using it for off road...I also enjoy doing some desert cruising (going fast, small bumps, jumps and stuff) and mudding.

Can't say from personal experience but I hear the heavy is good in the front if you have a winch, else wise the medium is good. Unless you want it stiff then heavy is the way to go.

The "heavies" (886) in the front and the "mediums" (895) in the rear seem to be the most popular choice for the OME suspension, especially if you plan to add a winch bumper and winch down the road.

I went with the heavies for some time before I eventually added a winch bumper. To say the least, a remarkably improved ride (with or without the bumper).

Bang for the buck in a true offroad suspension package, the Old Man Emu kit is near impossible to beat. Matter of fact, that's what most dealerships are installing on their brand new "turn key" off-road package FJ's that they're selling.
