Question about Upper control arms.

Quick question folks, Are upper control arms only for the front of your ride or do you have to buy front and back?

The front upper control A-arms are to help the front end alignment come into specs (for the chamber) if you have lifted 3" or more. You can use them independently or in conjunction with the upper and lower links on the rear axle. You don't need to run both or as a set. It is all about how you have set up your rig.

If you jump here The Scorpion you can read why I changed out the stock upper control arms.

The lower control arms (rear) that come with your FJ are not adjustable. They are not a problem IMO unless you plan to do some rough off-road driving. If that is the case, you might find that the metal walls of the LCA's are prone to trail damage. I covered my addition of LCA's here The Scorpion.

If I can be of any help, please PM me.

Re: Question about Upper control arms.

Like the others have said its two different things.

Front you have Upper A-arms that can be replaced/upgraded. Multiple company's make these, All Pro, Donahoe, Total Chaos, Camburg...
(All Pro's A-arm)

Rear you have upper and lower links that you can replace/upgrade. You can get these form multiple company's as well.
upper (All Pro Pro Links)

lower (All Pro Pro Links)

If you do any wheeling I highly recommend do the lower rear links at least. The stock one is so thine it bends and break when rocks even look at it.

Re: Question about Upper control arms.

Ok let me get this strait. Just in the rear of the vehicle you upper arms and lower arms. For example all-pro part # 4701FJ-AP-UL and a set of #4701FJ-AP-LL. Thanks sorry for all the newb questions.

Yeah uppers and lowers in the rear. There is almost no reason to change the uppers unless you are doing geometry changes with a big lift. If you damage the uppers, you have much bigger problems. The lowers though, are definitely the weak point in the rear.

Re: Question about Upper control arms.

Oh, there's a lot more than that! You're just scratching the surface, my friend. One thing you should consider, and this is no joke, is the new All Pro "ultimate sway bar links".

Notice the number of veteran FJ drivers who posted on the All Pro thread that they ordered them today right after they were released. I think it's a need-to-have, not a nice to have and it's just over $100. Cheap insurance.

This link is a real weak point on the front end and fixes the problem of week sway bar links breaking, cutting the CV boot and splattering grease everywhere.
