3" Lift with current OME 883

Hi Forum,

I put 883's on my FJ to level it and got a front lift of about 1,75". Later I added 285 tires using take-off rims. I thought the 883's would have lifted enough for the tires to stay clear of the UCA but they don't.

Now I need to either put spacers or get a full 3" lift but I'm wondering if there's a way I can do that using my current 883's. I'm wondering if I could just put a longer shock with spacers to bring it up to 3" and use a normal rear lift.

I also plan on adding a ARB bumper & winch next spring so I don't know if that should be taken into consideration with the 883's

Rims taken off of what, and exactly which tires? Shouldn't happen with stock wheels and most any 285/70/17 but some brands and styles are a little different.

The ARB is one of the heaviest bumpers out there, I would think you'd want heavier springs than 883's to hold that one and a winch up.

Yup, what 1911 said...you must have a "non-stock" backspacing/offset to cause rubbing on the UCA's and lifting it any higher won't change that.

And, you will need a higher rated spring with that bumper if you want any lift at all...

Re: 3" Lift with current OME 883

Sorry everyone, I forgot to mention the tire size. Rims are 16" take-off (Tacoma, Tundra or 4 Runner, I'm not sure). Tires are Dick Cepek Mud Country, 285/75R16.

They rub a little on the body mounts when the wheels are fully turned, I'm not very concerned about that but they also touch the UCA a bit, probably when the suspension extends or compresses. I know for sure that they don't touch it when the truck is resting but they're very close.

As for the ARB Bumper and the 883's, someone in my club has done it with a T-Max winch (9000lbs I think) and the truck is still leveled but that obviously doesn't mean it's gonna last long.

The 883's are good springs, way better than stock. I have them on my truck - but I've got a Demello Offroad bumper and an 8000 lb winch with synthetic line that weighs a whole lot less than the setup you mention. No doubt the 883's would do, but I still think you'd be better served with a heavier set.

Re: 3" Lift with current OME 883

I installed wheel spacers to fix the UCA rubbing problem. I'll see next year for the winch, maybe I'll just keep the suspension as is and get a Lucrum winch mount to lower the weight.

Thanks for the replies
