Question Advice? Differential lowering kit

Hey everyone,

Lifted my FJ last weekend 3", and the kit I used contained a 1" lowering kit for the differential. I haven't installed it yet, because it seems as if the stock skid plates won't fit afterward.

The kit is just two long bolts with aluminum spacers that (I assume) fit above the two arms on the front differential, facing forward under the engine. My kit neglected to include instructions.

Did anyone else have a problem with the plates not fitting back on? Can you post a pic of your drop install? I was thinking about getting bushings and longer screws for the plates.

Thanks,

John.

No need for the drop kit on an FJC, your CV joint angles are just fine with a 3" lift. The drop kits are made for tacos or 4runners.

Cool, thanks. I'll leave them off, but still keep an eye on the CVs though.

Maybe I can pass the bolts off to someone with a Tacoma.

Re: Advice? Differential lowering kit

I wonder if they are the same bolts as the 2000-06 Tundras. When I had my tundra, the CV's would spit grease everywhere if the angles got off by a couple inches above stock. If so, I am sure someone over on tundra solutions would want them.

They might be the same, just a big bolt and thick washer really. There's a handful of Tacomas in my local 4x4 club, NTORA.ORG I'll try to pawn them off at our next ride. If not, then I'll put them up on the forums. I only paid $200 for the whole kit, so I'm not gonna be greedy with them.

Re: Advice? Differential lowering kit

Has anyone installed the differential lowering kits yet? My inner CV boot is leaking from the clamp (the clamp is on tight), so the ARB tech suggested that the OME Mediums offer a little bit too much lift on my truck as I do not have the additional weight of an aftermarket bumper or winch. I might end up doing this to save the CVs and the boots from eventually tearing.

Re: Advice? Differential lowering kit

I have installed them on the Tacomas before. Yes the skid plate makes contact but all you have to do is keep tightening the skid plate bolts and the plate bends to fit. No problems. Hope this helps.
