Re: Limit straps--question

Interesting... I agree that more mods and more balls-out driving will result in parts kickin the bucket - that much is obvious.

The context here just doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

Given a stock FJ, if I had to pick between 1) upgrading the suspension, removing the sways, and having limit straps vs. 2) throwing on the heaviest bumpers, armor, wheels, etc etc and meeting or exceeding the GVWR... I'd say FJ #1 is going to seriously out-drive and out-last FJ #2.

I guess it doesn't surprise me that an employee of the aftermarket isn't so quick to point out the problems with setup #2... interesting place to draw the line for how much is too much.

I'm in the same boat - planning to do this soon, but not able to offer anything scholarly at this point. I'll let you know how it goes though!
Hahaha, didn't realize I'd posted in this thread... things have definitely changed in the last couple years. I have no intention of going with the straps now. The consequences of having no front sway are limited to trashing ball joints on stock UCA on my rig, no other problems... I've got enough stock UCA's laying around my apartment to last a couple years at the rate I'm trashing them.

The rear might end up being a different story... I'm wary of the fact that the rear shock is 'carrying' the axle. I have conflicting stories from equally credible sources about whether or not this will tear the shock apart. Time will tell!
