Leveling Kit Questions

Well I've had the FJ for a month now and have been making mods since day 1. I'm now looking to add a front leveling kit and had a few questions. On my Nissan titan I purchased a leveling kit which was an aluminum shim basically that mounted on top of the spring. I've noticed these available for the FJ but have also read where a few were simply changing out the springs. Just was wondering what the pro's and cons were??I also noted a couple of the kits had a different thickness shim for the drivers side. If this normal?

I have an 08 with the off road package 16" wheels if that should make a difference?

With the leveling has anyone noticed a decrease in mileage ?

Re: Leveling Kit Questions

I noticed a slight decrease in mileage. I think the looks of it leveled, the fact that the nose dive upon braking is almost eliminated, and how it stiffens up the front suspension (better road manners) I think is all for the better.

I used Old Man Emu 883 (OME 883) springs, and the "TP-14" .25" spacer for the drivers side. The shim is to compensate for drivers weight. Couldn't be happier!

As far as the shims, I was going to purchase them. I asked for opinions like you, and got many answers. Most of them saying the spacers are the "hack" way to do it. Apparently it stresses your front suspension more than most would be comfortable with. With that said, I've noticed that some lift kits give you springs AND/or spacers for the front. Jeep guys use them all the time with no problems. I guess it's personal preference. I think the springs are going to give a better ride.
