Painting coil springs?

First of all are coil springs usually powder coated? I have some that appear not to have been. If this is the case can i repaint them?..if so what type of paint will allow this type of flexing..if there is a type. any help would be sweeet. I searched first, no luck.

Re: Painting coil springs?

I seriously doubt that any manufacturer of coil springs would go to the expense of powder coating their product.

I can tell you that when I replaced the springs on my ATV they came yellow, YUCK. I painted them with Rustoleum and have 2 years of some heavy duty punishment on them, Tellico included and the paint is fine. No chips at all. I hope that helps you.

The best thing to use would be durable and flexible, like say some of that semi-hard latex you dip tool handles in for grip.

Re: Painting coil springs?

Almost all coil spring manufacturers powder coat their springs.

Almost any rust inhibiting spray paint will do the job. Just remember that surface preparation is the most important step to avoid corrosion.

I agree with Radflo. I haven't seen one that's NOT powder coated.

Re: Painting coil springs?

I also believe that most spring manufacturors powder coat, but apparently not ALL do. I am going to call the spring maker to see if they have any suggestions or maybe a swap out for me. But they would look pretty sweet if I threw on some pumkin orange paint.

Re: Painting coil springs?

I do know that several do offer springs uncoated so you are able to get them done in the colour of your choice.
