Fabtech vs. Rough Country

I'm confused about which one to go with. I see a lot of people on here that have gone with the Rough Country 6" kit, and very few that have done Fabtech. When I first did my comparison, before everyone started posting about them on here, I decided that Fabtech was the way to go. One of the shops I went to, the guy said he wouldn't suggest Rough Country to his worst enemy. I figured he had some bad blood with them, no big deal, I'll just do more research. I then started talking to another shop and he also said Rough Country was poorly made, especially on new applications (like the FJ). Ok, 2 people, coincidence, no big deal. I've now been to 5 or 6 different places, and talked to a few others on the phone, and none of them suggest Rough Country. They all specifically discouraged Rough Country. I don't know if poeple that have the Rough Country are too proud to admit that they bought a crappy product, or if they are genuinely satisfied with it. Three major factors that are going into my decision are: 1) Ease of install. My brother-in-law, a friend of his and I will be putting it on. He and his friend are very experienced, but I still don't want to get in too far over my head with complications. 2) Functionality. I still want a product that I won't be unhappy with. I will be putting it to use, and not just using it as a penis extension. 3) Price. I'd like to keep it in the ballpark of $1800 and $2000. I'm also not limited to these two manufacturers. I like to keep my options open. All feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Fabtech vs. Rough Country

I personaly know almost everyone that works over at RC and have meet the owner. Could'nt know a better group of guys. My opinions may be slightyly biased so take it for what its worth. I have the 3" kit and really like it as far as price, ease of install and functionality. As far as your questions about quality I dont see an issue there. Keep in mind who those shops are using as their primary parts source. What there mark up is and what lifts will get them the most money in return. RC makes affordable lifts that are very easy to install on your own. The 6" kit is complete bolt on, no cutting or welding required. From what I understand FabTech requires cutting the cross member. You wanna know about functionality ask TennesseeSquire about it. He has put his through the ringer as has Matt07FJ.

Here is some additional reading on the subject too:

Re: Fabtech vs. Rough Country

I was the first person to have The Rough Country 6" lift (not counting RC's SEMA FJ).

It has been on since April and I have been thru all sorts of trails & mud and
preformed like a champ. Just click on the Trail Photos link in my signature for pictures of my adventures.

If I didn't think it was a good product, it wouldn't still be on my FJ.

Re: Fabtech vs. Rough Country

I have been extremely happy with my OME HD Front/Rear system! With that being said I got my long awaited present RC 6" lift. I haven't installed it yet, I have to wait on my bonus in March/April for bigger tires. I did the same research and can tell you: if your looking for a CLEAR indicator of which is better, you willn't find it. Some people like Fabtech, some Pro-comp, and some RC.. In the 6" lifts.. Most like OME in the 3" (2.5") lifts. If you are looking to go 3" and don't want to spend the $$ for DR's, Allpro, FOX, or etc.. then go with the OME's. Sorry I can't really clear things up for you, its really just who(customer service) and what (the lift itself) you feel comfortable with. I chose RC, because everyone that had dealt with them in the 3"/6" lifts enjoyed their experience and the RC team went above and beyond. Also they are running a FabFours bumper, which everyone know how heavy that beast is, which I already run too.

Semper Fi and Don't forget to duck (if playing in the sandbox)! OOHRAH!

Re: Fabtech vs. Rough Country

I can't speak to the product, but the people at Rough Country are top notch. they have gotten behind numerous trail runs over the past year, all of which are top notch.

I have seen tennessee squires and the rough country sema truck on the trails. So they are trail tested and both look very nice. As well I have seen many many with the 3" lift. No horror stories from either product.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the responses. I have plenty of time to figure out which way to go, but I'm always looking for a deal and keeping up with my research.

Just got home in October. I was at Al Asad so it wasn't too bad. Only when Subway and Burger King were closed.

Yes sir that is correct. Was over there yesterday and they were talking bout that. They were also offering a pretty good deal on it but I think that may have ended.

I also saw it advertised on RC's website for $1279. Is this normal or marked down. I could swear I've seen it for much more (15-1700 maybe?) There's no way I can afford that right now anyway. Maybe closer to spring. I have to order rims and tires first. I don't want a lift if I don't have tires ready to go on. A build in progress is one thing but lifted 6" and stock tires would just look retarded. I don't mind waiting to order it, but once it's in the garage I don't like to waste any time getting it on. I also don't want to let my guard down and miss a deal I can't pass up. Been there, done that.
