Re: ome 886 with stock shocks

It might be good to swap out the stock shocks with some OME struts. I have a tacoma with 885's in the front, and I originally ran it with the stock Bilsteins, and it was a little rough. I recently installed OME n140S and am very happy with them. Rides very nice

Re: ome 886 with stock shocks

Actually the 886 coils reqire the struts to be swapped out, the lighter coils can be used with the oem but the 886 are just too stiff and tall for the stock ones.

Re: ome 886 with stock shocks

the stiff coils might cause your shocks to blow out, mine did after only 1500 miles with them on

Re: ome 886 with stock shocks

I can't imagine that the stock shocks can be extended an additional 3+" with the OME 886's. I have a Demello bumper, winch and BudBuilt skids and I still have 3" of lift.

Do an experiment...take the time to remove a strut and see if it can be extended 3". Even if you can, still don't think that it will be an effective piece of suspension being put at the extremes of its range but it might give you an idea if it will "work".

Just put the TRD shocks in storage and save up for the OME complete kit, its well worth it...

I can afford the new struts and coils for the front end, (dat way momma don't get mad!) I still have the stock rear bumper. Could I just lift the front?

Sure, you could but I would imagine that you would be very front high with that set up. I can only imagine an ill-handling vehicle, decreasing front visibility.

You best bet might be what others have done and go with the OME 883 springs with the stock struts. Many have been happy with this result in that it gets "close" to leveling out the rig.

Do a quick search with the parameters "ome 883 springs" and you will be able to read and see what other's rigs have come out with this set up...

Re: ome 886 with stock shocks

Just had a similar discussion with Doug at Toytec (forum sponsor), and would recommend you consider that as well. He was extremely helpful and really understands what works together and what doesn't really fit well, particularly with respect to the OME coils and various shock options.

BTW - many say the heavies are too stiff - even with the winch + bumper combo...see http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...ion-trade.html

-cheers
