Alignment without a rack?

I would like to lift my FJ, but my problem is that I live in a rural area and there aren't any vehicle repair shops that have an alignment rack. Can the alignment be done accurately without one?

Re: Alignment without a rack?

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your fj to the fullest now for your question you would want to have the alignment done at a shop you would be able to get the toe in and out close but adjusting the caster and camber is another story. How far would the drive be to a shop with a laser alignment rack?

Re: Alignment without a rack?

I live in rural Alaska and getting my vehicle to an alignment shop would not be impossible, a PITA and risky but not impossible. If the alignment could be done without a laser alignment rack that would be preferable. To get to the nearest alignment shop economically I would have to drive several hundred miles on an ice road which basically follows the Alaskan oil pipeline. The drive is rough on vehicles and I have heard too many horror stories, enough to keep me from driving on the road. It would actually be a good torture test of the FJ. Just not my FJ. I would really love to lift my FJ a few inches, but if I can't get the alignment done without a laser alignment rack. I guess I can wait until the opportunity presents itself to get one done. Thanks for the reply

Re: Alignment without a rack?

You don't have to have laser its just the closest but the old string style works also has been used for allot of years. I would say when you have time to take it for a trip south then have the lift installed and alignment at the same time at a shop I know this answer sucks but its not worth chewing the tires off of the fj at the same time.
