Help with tire/lift question please...

Anyone running 305/65/17's? On the stock 17" wheels?? Just got my FJ and plan on doing the Daystar front/back "level-lift". If 305/65's are too wide I would go with 285/70's. I also might use a 1" wheel spacer.

I know how some on here frown on spacer lifts like Daystar.....and some don't like wheel spacers either.

I don't go off-roading much (never). My father-in-law's steep gravel driveway is about as bad as it would get for me. I am just going for a small lift and a more aggresive stance/look. Mostly highway travel, some in town.

Would a set-up like this work? I would also consider getting a wheel/tire package with a wider wheel (8-9") with a good offset. That way I could avoid the wheel spacers. I do like the look of the stock wheels though.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated ....thanks alot

I just copied and pasted this from the tire forum. I put it there earlier today. 42 people checked it out and no one responded. This must be a really bad post. My bad.

Re: Help with tire/lift question please...

Not a bad thread at all....But it is one that has been done time and time again. My advice is to utilize the search field and see what you can find.

I am also researching a "levelling" lift and am leaning toward a spacer. Extreme truck toys has a spacer that goes on top of your coil pack and through many hours of reading I am thinking this is a decent way to go. This way you don't have to take the coil apart or reseat the springs and shims. The other two options are OME 883 Coil (leveling coil spring) or the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks. Whatever you feel comfortable with is going to be whats best for you.......Just remember to post some pics once you choose.

As far as tire choice goes that is another well documented topic.....But I will say that the most common tire on this forum is the 285 in either 17 or 16 inch version.

Re: Help with tire/lift question please...

I may be wrong..but I'm pretty sure you're not gonna be able to fit those tires with just a leveling kit. You're definitely going to have to chop the body mounts, probably a wheel spacer (spidertrax/trail gear are usually the choices around here), and a bigger lift...

I'm running 35's with new wheels and the spidertrax spacers..and the body mounts chopped (search for clearancing body mounts)..but with the Rough Country 6" Lift. There are a lot of components to the lift but the front is essentially a top load spacer lift...placed on top of the stock shocks.

Basically..that's a lot of tire to fit under just a leveling kit. Goodluck with everything!

Re: Help with tire/lift question please...

I was under the impression that you could run 285's (basically 33x11.5) without any lift?? And only experience rubbing when wheeling hard (which I don't plan on doing).

295/65 is the same size only a little wider (roughly 33x12)

I think the Daystar front and back level-lift lifts the front 2 1/2" and the back 1 1/2"?

Any "Daystar People" (or other spacer lift company ) running "33's" with or without rubbing??.......Using wheel spacers??? Or running a wider aftermarket wheel??
