OME now or Donahoe later?

at this point I could probably kick down for an OME lift and get some fatter meats under the FJ and be reasonably happy with the whole thing but I'd be left wondering............would have it been worth it to wait and get the full Donahoe stage 2 through Demello?

after you roast me to death, I'd like your input.

Re: OME now or Donahoe later?

how bout getting the donohoe stage 1, then upgrading to stage 2 later? I just got my stage 1 today from DO, and so far I am really impressed with the "on-road" ride. Havent had time to try it off-road yet. but im happy. Originally I was going to go OME first, but figured why spend the $$$ twice. Just save up a couple extra months.

good luck, Mike

Re: OME now or Donahoe later?

Frankly, you're not going to be disappointed either way. I got the OME setup and I love it. Granted, I couldn't afford the Donahoe then or now. If I did it again and could reasonably see being able to afford the DR within a fair amount of time, I'd wait.

With that said, again, I'm very pleased with my OME kit. The Emu setup really is fantastic. You don't get the adjustability or added performance of the adj. coilover setups, but the ride is definitely improved over stock and the lift looks great.

Bottom line, if you can, stick it out for the DR. If you can't wait, no worries! You'll love the OME.

Re: OME now or Donahoe later?

I am going through the same dilemma. I think I will end up doing the OME setup for now, run the crap out of it, then upgrade to the Donahoe in a year or 2.

Re: OME now or Donahoe later?

A couple of other considerations you may want to take into account: 1) do you plan to change out any of your bumpers later on (if so, then you would probably want to switch out your OME's to a stiffer spring - cost would then be closer to the Donahoe's); and 2) you have to consider the Donahoe restructuring currently going on, which will probably include a name change to the company (from what I gathered from another forum, updated as recently as today).

Re: OME now or Donahoe later?

x2 on the weight consideration, although when I upgraded to the heavier springs I sold my lighter ones to offset about half the cost, which isn't much since the springs are the least expensive component. I have the OME 886/896 with an ARB and Warn XD9000 that I've been very happy with.

Also might want to consider UCA's and do the math on those too. I know Wheelers had a killer deal on a DR lift and TC UCA combo a while back.

Oh yeah...

How long would you have to wait? There's an enormous difference in price. I'm probably biased because mine is not a daily driver and mainly used for long runs and offroading, but the OME heavies have been spectacular for me. Do I feel like I'm offroading in a Lexus: no. But they get me the extra 2-3" of basic stance difference and are much tougher than stock. I've driven in the pinnacle of FJC suspension rides (Todd's Air2Air machine). Was it much better: hells yes. Is getting a new suspension on top of my want list now: no way. The OME's are just fine, do everything I want. I'll change em out when I have absolutely nothing else left to mod.

That's my take, anyway
