taking my lift off

Yeah, It may sound wussy, but I think I'll take my 3" lift off soon. I have a suspensionmax kit, with a spacers on the front and heavy springs in the rear.

My old corolla died last month, so my FJC is my only transportation, and I can't afford to risk too much mud abuse on it for now. I might as well go back to a more car-like ride. I wasn't that happy with the stiff rear springs. They felt good when I was trailering a boat, but seemed to reduce my articulation offroad. I also didn't like the occasional sound of them resetting after stiff bumps.

One thing I do like about the lift was how it leveled the front, so I'd like to put a 1/2" or 3/4" spacer on the front to preserve that angle. I'd appreciate any input on what to buy for that. I see that toytech has one.

thanks,

John.

Re: taking my lift off

I'd just do the OME 883 springs to level it out.

I think the OME 883s sound like the best option, however, why not put a Toytec 3" lift with Toytec custom rear coils. Mine rides pretty damn smooth - if you get those rear coils I think you would be happy - just a thought.

Putting on the OME/ToyTec 3" in the morning. I'll try to let you know what I think after. But keeping the old stuff just in case! The darn thing goes almost everywhere stock. Went for this setup as I like the stock ride for the most part, ya a little stiffer would be okay., just want a bit more clearance. And will be pulling a trailer most weekends in the coming summers when I get "outta Dodge" and up to Silverton and Ouray. So the ToyTec rear springs seemed right.

Thanks for everyone's advice. The price of the OME 883's on just the front is quite affordable. I'd like to hear your opinion on the smoothness with the 884's. Like you said, my FJ was quite capable when stock. I did the cheapo lift mainly to keep my belt pulleys a little drier, and sacrificed the quality of the daily ride.

Re: taking my lift off

Here is our FJ with a 1.5" spacer in front. The stance is perfect and we're running 285.70.17s with absolutely no rub. You can get these spacers for less than $100 on ebay. Took me less than 2 hours to install.

Here ya are!

The install went well, after a small problem... I got the drivers front strut out and sruggled with getting the new part in. I posted a question on the forum and within 5 minutes 1911 answered. I just had to pry in the correct location. finished the front install and watched the lateer football game.

Sunday morning I did the rear swap. Two hours for the whole job.

At first I thought the front was a bit higher than I wanted. The driveshaft angle was a bit much. Now after looking again I am happy. The ride is great! Just a bit firmer and less sway or lean in corners or on bumps. Ya, I'm a happy camper!

Looks great! I am glad you are happy with it. My wife has a Sun Fusion and I wanted to put a 3" lift on it - she refused. Now I can see how it would have looked. Thanks for posting the pics!
