My pal Mike (Stringmachine) and I installed my OME 3” lift today. It was actually much easier than I had expected thanks to the information provided me by Joeuser and NewOrleansParrotHead, thanks again guys. That it what this forum is all about.
I am not going to get into a step by step here as that has been done on several threads. Just a few observations that may help out the next person installing a lift.
Take the time to remove the front bash plate and the sway bar, 10 minutes and well worth having it out of the way.
I bought spring compressors, check out the tool section to see them. $75.00 for two pair and well worth it. He who dies with the most tools wins If the thought of using spring compressors scares you, by all means take them to a shop and have them switched out. Make sure that they put the bottom spring cup on correct.
For the rears we removed the upper links at the rear housing, sway bar connectors, and brake line clamps to free them up. Removing the upper links allowed the rear end to move much more freely than another lift we did without removing them.
The big payoff is the ride. The new shocks are superior to the stock models and a noticeable reduction of body roll were the first thing I noticed. Even my girlfriend noticed how much smoother the ride is and the lack of body roll. I cant wait to get it out on the trail!

1-Nahhhh it’s not being stripped
2-Gotta love Jack Stands and a Floor Jack
3-Stock strut and spring compressor
4-In NC they let ugly people work on FJs (easy now that’s me)_
5-Spring compressors with cardboard and nylon straps. The cardboard keeps the threads of the compressors from cutting into the nylon. The blanket was thrown over them when they were being tightened and loosened to help slow down flying parts if anything let go. I layed the spings on a make shift bench in the hoz position to do this. The idea being if things let go parts would fly off in a vertical plane and hopefully not hurt anyone.
