Clunk in front end fixed

About a month ago I installed a spacer lift to my FJ. After a couple weeks I finally got around to getting it aligned. The last week I noticed a slight clunk in the front end when I would back out of my driveway and sometimes when I was driving. After searching some posts on the forum I came across one where another member (sorry I can't give him credit as I didn't remember his name) had a similar noise, and it was after he had his FJ aligned. To get to the point, make sure your lower control arm bolts are tightened to 100 lb.ft. The bolts are the ones that the alignment shop loosens to make the adjustment on the lower control arm where it attaches to the frame. Mine weren't even close to correct torque. Failure to do this will cause this slight clunk. Hope this can help someone else.

Any chance of Pics of the offending bolts... I'm getting a front end clunk. Very noticeable after being parked, and first shifting into reverse, but also intermittently during driving. I've had Wheel alignments done so I suspect this could be the culprit. Thanks for the Tip, I'm going to check them out this week.

Cheers!

Re: Clunk in front end fixed

Good to know. I've got to crawl under the FJ this Saturday (front diff drop install), so I'll re-check the torque at the same time...

Thanks for the tip...

Re: Clunk in front end fixed

I have a 6" Rough Country lift, so my lower control arms have a lowering bracket . That being said the bolt that is circled in green is the stock alignment bolt in the new lift bracket. The bolt circled in yellow is where the alignment bolt should be on a stock or 3" lifted FJ. Hope this helps. This picture is taken looking from the front of the truck looking to the back on the drivers side.

Re: Clunk in front end fixed

So I crawled under there and Torqued away, then took it for a quick test drive... STILL CLUNKS. So I lubed the Driveshaft, spiders, and slip yoke, front and rear, then took it for a drive... Still clunks, or more accurately SNAPS... So it's off to the dealer tomorrow to have it looked at. OH!!! I still haven't torqued the wheels. I've heard that can be a clunking/snapping culpit too... I guess I'm off to do that now...
