This might have been covered many times but I can't seem to find the answer. Does a 3" Lift with the OEM rack fit in a standard garage??
I will be renting an apartment with a garage so I can't modify it to fit, but I really want the lift and really want to keep it in the garage.
If it doesn't fit, will leveling the front do anything to help off road performance or is it simply aesthetic?
Depends If You Have A Roofrack? What Kind Of Roofrack? What Size Tires?
I have the factory rack with BFG Rugged Trails that I plan on keeping for awhile (although I planned on keeping it stock for awhile and that went out the window in about 2 weeks! Thanks everyone! )
The standard height of garages should be no problem for 3 inch lifted FJs. The older homes have a lower height, so that would be the exception. I have a OME lift and my ride height is 82 inches to the top of the roof rack and 84 inches to the top of my antenna mast. I use the antenna to tell me if I have enough clearance no matter where I go.

your welcome. stock tire size with a 3in lift should be fine.
I am a home designer /builder. A standard garage door is 4-21" panels totaling 84”. There is generally at least 1” of trim around the door bringing that down to 83”. Also consider that there may be a depression of up to a half inch where the bottom of the door sits to keep water from entering the garage which essentially raises the garage floor another ½”. The other variable is how high the door itself actually opens. Many of them hang down a bit and are not fully horizontal when in the up position.
I think that the best that you can do is measure the opening with the door up and then compare that to the different numbers that you get here.

You guys must have really high garage doors to fit your FJ's in w/3" lifts!
My house was built in the late 70's and my FJ (with a roof rack and Hi-lift mounted at the rear but without a lift) BARELY fits into my garage which is 83" high but only clears at 78" (due to the garage door overhang, which I already raised up 2" from where it was before at 76"). Besides that, most garages in SF seem to have a ceiling height of 78" or less and, due to variations in garage height caused by overhanging pipes etc, I won't try to park in any garage w/a claimed ceiling height of less than a 7' ceiling height, which really limits where I can drive the FJ in town.
That's why there's no lift in store for me, which is fine because it saves me all the money that I'd have to pay for the lift and new wheels/tires to go with it.

Besides that, most garages in SF seem to have a ceiling height of 68" or less and really limits where I can drive the FJ in town.

STANDBY with comments on this post -- I'm going down to check the #'s right now!!!
Nevermind - you fixed the numbers after I posted. You sure about those numbers in inches? 72" high is only 6 feet and 68" is only 5'8", that's a really low ceiling. Or did you mean 6'8"s which is 80" total?
My garage door at home is 96"s (8'), so I have no problem getting in, but at work, my antenna hits when doing some of the bumps in the garage. It lists the limit at 6"8"s. I have the factory roof rack, 285/70/17 BFG KM2s and no lift.
