someone lied!

I have not been on in a while and it is mostly because i got bad advice and was so pissed i have not been on since december. I have cooper tires 285 65 18's and had rubbing when i turned to the left. I was told that I could just buy OME 883 springs and that would do the trick. I bought them from toytech and put them on and guess what STILL FREAKEN RUBBING. Does anyone have the same set up and remedied the problem. Please help.

Re: someone lied!

Search - "Body mount chop" - well documented. Easy solution!

Re: someone lied!

Uhhh....your wheel backspacing plays a major role in this....you may have needed to provide that information before making purchase decisions.

Re: someone lied!

Very sorry about the bad advice you got.
I don't know the model 18" rim that you have, but I am going to guess the back space is not the same as the stock rims.
If this is the case, you might be able to use spacers on the rims to push the wheel out a bit.
If it it not a rim space problem, I would say the body mount chop is the only other way.
Just wondering, why did you go with 18" rims with 285/65's? I would think this size would be about the same as the 285/75/16, but you would have had more rubber for the trails. I guess I think of it as more rubber, less rim...

Re: someone lied!

I knew I was not going to go crazy in four wheel and I liked how the set up looked. I have moto metal rims. I tried to look up the body chop but was unsuccessful. I porovided everything I knew at the time and OME 883's were the suggestion. If i buy some spacers and take it up another 1" would that work?

Re: someone lied!

If it is rubbing only when you turn, maybe you can just adjust the toe stops. I haven't looked at my FJ, but all my older Toyota's had a adjustable nut/stopper for the amount of turn the ball joint can take. I would look today but it's raining pretty bad. Just an idea

Re: someone lied!

I'm afraid to answer, you might leave again You need to find out the back spacing on your wheels. Where exactly is the tie rubbing?

they will more likely rub when turning left, on the outer edge of the wheel, because your fj leans to the left.

Re: someone lied!

Have you removed the front mudflaps yet? Sometimes that will fix it if it's just a slight rub.
