Lifting a Trail Team Edition

Does anyone know if any of the 3" lifts work with the Bilstein shock absorbers that come on the Trail Team Edition FJ??

If any work please post up the brand name.

Thanks

Re: Lifting a Trail Team Edition

unsure about your question, but it would seem if it is a trail team addition they would have put one on from factory..? i would have to guess though that the non lifted fj will need the rear shocks and springs replaced.. hope this helps

Re: Lifting a Trail Team Edition

Some of the spacer kits will work it you want to keep the bilstiens, I think you will need to find one of the spacer kits that comes with the rear spring donut, then you will retain the factory bilstiens on all for corners, if that is what you are asking. Look at the lift kit comparison thread that should help you.

Re: Lifting a Trail Team Edition

I asked something like you and CRUZINWYO responded me:

1- My question:
I just bought a trail team special edition, and it has Bilstein shoks. I want to lift the truck 2" or 2.5". In the front I will instal a T-Max winch with Lucrum mount winch. Could I use OME spring without changing the bilstein shoks? and wich spring rate should i buy for the front and wich one for the back.

2- CRUZINWYO respond:
You can, but I wouldn't. I have the TRD with the bilsteins shocks. I put longer coils on them and then found out that the shocks can over extend and break. So if you lift do an entire coil and shock setup that match...I recommend the entire setup to be the same brand all the way around. I would recommend the OME mediums all the way around for your application.

3- What I did:
I brouthg the OME suspention kit, and sold to a friend the bilstain shock for US $400.00

Re: Lifting a Trail Team Edition

Boca,

Here's what you should do...

Just replace all springs. Put OME 884s in front and ToyTecs in back.

I bought the springs from ToyTec (about $300 w/ forum member discount). I do not have a TRD or TT edition but I bought a complete set of TRD Bilstein shocks from a forum member.

You will also want a thin spacer for the front driver's side ($20 from Toytec).

I just had this installed yesterday. It is fantastic. I truly believe this is how the FJ was meant to be. Total lift is about 3.5" in front and 2.5" rear. The ride is as smooth as stock but firmer. Brake dive is gone. The profile of the FJ really comes out. It now looks like a real beast. I still need to get it aligned. I'm thrilled with the results.

And you are running the TRD Bilstein's, right? (This was my plan as well with my Off-Road package)

Re: Lifting a Trail Team Edition

Yes indeed. Bilstein TRD shocks all the way around. I will post pix soon.

There are quite a few members running this set up. Shane 4x4 recently did a write-up.... 3" Toytec on the TRD

I see someone posted a rumor about the Bilsteins becoming "over-extended" in this config...

I have yet to hear about someone with that issue... Anybody know what this is in reference to?
