Revtek lift...now it goes clunk...

My boyfriend recently had a 3 inch leveling lift on his FJ by the Toyota dealer in town. When we brought it home and drove it for a while, we noticed a bit of a clunk.

He took it back to the dealer and they said it had something to do with the brake pads and was normal?!?!?

I was driving the FJ for the past two days and noticed the clunk became more severe -- in particular, every time I backed out of a parking space and turned the wheel hard in either direction. It was so severe that I thought I had clipped my car (which was parked next to the FJ) or run something over.

Anybody know what could be going on here?

I'm about to take it to a different dealer's shop to see if they have a different diagnosis.

I too have the revtek and I had the same thing. Turned out I snapped the drivers rear shock and it was bouncing against the frame. I have off roaded and given her hard sometimes....i'd check to make sure your shocks are intact...I'm learning that all pro makes a 2" bumpstop drop kit, i beleive this might be in order.

Re: Revtek lift...now it goes clunk...

Well, here is the latest...

It still KLUNKS, but it is louder now. I have even had people think I clipped thier cars in the lot while I was backing up...Had the dealer put it up in the air several times, pulled wheels off, etc...

It has been at the shop for a few days with still no smoking gun. They are telling me that it should not cause a problem and now I have it documented so my warentee is secure, but I am not pleased that my prized FJ has a chink in her armor...

What else can I do? I am considering taking the lift off and chopping the body mounts to accept the new tires, but that seems a bit extreme!

Clunk in front end fixed

Here is another "clunk" thread. Maybe your answer is here?

Re: Revtek lift...now it goes clunk...

With the clunk I would check to make sure the rear springs are indexed and sitting properly in the cup. Second check that the front strut top bolts are all tight in the frame. If they did an alignment after install, check to see if the front end alignment bolts are tight to 100ft/lb. It is a pretty straight foward kit and hard to screw up installation. Also check to make sure they installed the rubber rear gromets on the top and bottom of the rear shock and it is not loose.

Check the bolts on the shocks to make sure that they are tight & check the rear shock at the buttom I needed a shim in the back because it was rubbing on the mount. Just added a washer and it fixed the problem.
