The horse ain't dead yet: 3" or 6"?

My head is about to EXPLODE!!! I've been peering over 100's of posts all day long, multiple threads, pro comp vs all pro vs RC, 6 vs 3, cutting the...shoot what is it called... sigh... or not cutting it, why some kits cut "it" and others don't, mall crawlers (first time I read the term was today lol) etc.

My particular situation is as follow: the 6" looks badass. Yes plain and simple I LOVE the looks and the clearance. Now, I'm new to off roading. I thought in the past that my playground were going to be the Oceano Dunes, but after thinking about it, I think I'd have more fun on trails. From my readings, 6" makes the FJ more prone to tipping over as the center of gravity is higher.

Essentially, that's the only con for a 6" that I could see.

Right now, the 3" All Pro looks very nice (articulation and all), although I still love the 6" look even better. BTW, All Pro's website show different setups with Fox and whatever else systems....this is confusing....so much so that I don't even know what question to ask lol.

ok ok, back to the topic at hand. So 6"=higher center of gravity. 3"= plenty high for most off-roading applications. I won't be doing some crazy shiznit like some of you guys do, like going up 90 degree rocks and all, but I still want my ride to be highly capable AND look great.

So please, talk me in or out of both 3 and 6 lifts... I want to know what you guys think, now that I have explained my situation a bit.

By the way, I'm not made out of money, so if you could give me the best bang for the buck recommendation, I would greatly appreciate it.

It sounds like you are 70% concerned with the looks and 30% concerned with the offroad ability. Id say go 6 inch under that consideration! Expect to loose a few more mpg with the 6 inch and 35's as opposed to the 3inch and 33's.

I'd say it's 50/50 actually. I'm also concerned about reliability.... Oh and 3" roll w/ 33's? I didn't know that, I thought it was 35's regardless. I guess it'd be nice to save some MPG

Re: The horse ain't dead yet: 3" or 6"?

the quick and dirty.

the majority of the time a 3"(coilover) will perform better then a 6"(drop bracket) If you plan to push the FJ hard I believe a 3" would be a better choice if you are more concerned about looks a 6" will be alright, but I will never recommend one to any one I don't like them, I just don't.

As far as yoru choices go at all pro.
  • walker even non-adjustable - a cheaper alternative for those who don't want to or have the need to adjust there junk.
  • walker even adjustable - a step up form the non-adjustable, these will let you change the compression valving on the shocks which makes it a soft or harder ride depending on the needs at the time.
  • fox 2.0 adjustable - much like the WE adjustable but from what I have been told has a better ride then the WE's
  • fox2.5 non-adjustable - a bigger shock with more oil volume, guys like me want more oil so the shocks wont fad on me when I am trashing my stuff in the desert for hours on end. They also look cooler then the 2.0's.

Give them a call they will talk you through it and help you pick what you want/need. You also have Icon VD, SAW, King, Radflo, OME... I think thats it. Check this thread http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...-all-here.html for a full list of lifts available for the FJ.

Good luck with your search.

some guys put 35's on with a 3" lift so it can be done just take in to consideration that the tires will rub the fenders.

I personally favor Icon and King suspension systems (PM sent) and think that overall, you'd be happier with a suspension system that moves you up 3".

Re: The horse ain't dead yet: 3" or 6"?

Ok, I've ordered some 22's (say it out loud with me, you can't lose with 22's!) and I'm gonna cut my springs, or maybe just blow torch them, and slam that bad boy!

Alright so basically, the above, is the equivalent of doing a 6" lift in the off roading world: It may look good, but it's not exactly pratical, and in some instances, as well made as a 3" setup.

Icon and King... that's $$$$ no? what am I looking at to spend on a pretty decent setup?

That sounds about right to me.

King my first choice will run you about $2080 from Ebay
Icon my second choice will run you about $1450 from DeMello
Saw will run you about $1748 from DeMello
fox will run you depending on what kit $1398 - $1598

I think Radflo is the cheapest but I can't find there price right know but your looking at spending $1000 to $2100 not including UCA or rear links.
