What's the advantage of a dual shock setup?

As the title states, what's the benefit?

Re: What's the advantage of a dual shock setup?

If you sell shocks, you can sell twice as many and double your profits. Does this make sense?

there is none....unless you wheel at 80 plus miles per hour and catch a LOT of air.....

Unless you own a dodge or chevy....then ya gotta'....just to look cool....they hang so far below the axle everyone can see how pretty they are....

Re: What's the advantage of a dual shock setup?

If you need that much damping you need that much damping! Think extreme high speed stuff...

Of course there's no reason you couldn't have one gigantic shock accomplish that same thing, just like there's no reason you couldn't have 2500 ridiculously small shocks provide the damping of a stock FJ...

Think of it as 'why don't we have 30, 40, 75, or 150 dollar bills?' The effect of shocks is additive, linear...

Re: What's the advantage of a dual shock setup?

In the old days when all you had was monotube you would run dual shocks to keep them cool. 2 shocks mean each shock is doing half the work and getting 1/2 as hot as it would with out the other there. You can see this in the old school desert race trucks and buggy's some of the trucks would have 4 shock on each corner. Now a days you don't need to do that since we have external reservoir shocks that will stay cool / cooler way longer then a monotube. Keeping shocks cool is all about oil volume and with a ext. res. shock you can get twice the amount of oil or more then with out it. So today in the desert all you have is dual shocks but one is more to hold the spring in place and the other is there doing most if not all of the dampening to that corner. Plus now we have monster shocks that are 4"+ and that right there is over twice the size of an old billy.

old school billy New school Billy Black hawk (4.5" dia.)

What one do you want?

Wow a straight up answer with explanation. thanks Josh, I always wondered about this too. Now I can roll up to that sky high lifted "sunburt" neck truck and ask him if he could spare a set of those kings he's obviously not using. lol

Mike your in SoCal (SD for that) there called Bro's or flatbillers here. But ya they don't need them, all for looks on those 12" lifted trucks. They all runs Fox's not Kings though, one of the reason I don't run Fox's.

Glad it help though.

I resent that comment about Fox shocks! Are you calling me a poser!? That explains a lot!
