Arrow Is 450$ too much for a lift kit install?

I bought the medium OME 3'' lift from toytec a couple of days ago. I decided to call my local 4 wheel parts store and they quoted me 450 bucks to install the springs and spacers with the stock shocks!! Is that too high? I guesstimated around 300$ (assuming about 100 an hour).

yes. You can talk them down. I have never paid the first price for anything there.

Well I get a 5% Govt discount but that's not that helpful Saves me a whopping 31.50ish, basically tax free.

You could always do it yourself or have some buddies come over and help.

It also doesn't have to be an offroad shop. Call around and see what else you can get

Re: Is 450$ too much for a lift kit install?

I would stick with your guesstimate and find a shop that is close to it.

I did mine myself, but there is some work involved and wouldn't suggest it if you don't like the sweet sweet burn of skinned knuckles and the feel of a wrench in your hand.

I just do.

I am sure you can find a local shop, that doesn't even need to specialize in 4WD, that will get you looked after for around $300. The word "lift" will often scare some of the little shops, so use word like "remove and replace" front coils and rear springs.

You can explain to them the front are coilovers, McPherson type if I remember correctly, that need to have the top plate assembled from your old coil overs. The rear is a straight up swap for the old coils.

Are you really going to run stock shocks? You may want to do some research on this before you lift. I have a feeling the stock shocks will have very inadequate travel for what you are about to do, and may hinder any chance of you getting some nice smooth articulation from your new springs. Good luck!

I was quoted 250-300 but that was at 75 an hour. Sounds like you need to find a another shop.

Re: Is 450$ too much for a lift kit install?

I wasn't sure about that either but Toytec claims it operates properly with stock shocks. Would just plain old Rancho 5000's or maybe some Procomps work alright?

If Doug at Toytec said it will be alright I am sure you will be alright. He has looked after me for my suspension needs in the past as well.

You may find a better ride with the OME nitro-charger shocks if you can afford them. I am very impressed with mine.

Rancho's have always been nice on the older Yota's we have around here, I am sure they won't let you down in the FJ either.

Never dealt with ProComps...

I would suggest if you are *thinking* of doing the shocks, atleast do the front now with the install. You have to completely disassemble the front coil overs to replace the front shocks which basically boils to to: reinstalling your front lift. The rears are easy to do later... relatively speaking.

Hey, if you get the install down to $300 that extra $150 should really help with the front shocks!
